me versus non-sti turbo wrx

ok you guys I am not sure I should even be telling you this cuz I am sure not many of you will believe me but I **** you not...went up against a turbo wrx (non sti) I believe he just had exhaust and a little carbon fiber hood lol...but anyway I had two buddies in the car one of them posts here on stangnet...I was driving ahead of this guys and once we hit a light he immediatley pulls into the lane beside me wanting to race...I said ahh what the hell so we went up to 70 and I had him by about a car and a half...it was fun stuff...maybe he couldn't drive maybe I am a good driver who knows (haven't taken this car to the track yet) but that is my story...

Any given sunday anything can happen he might not of been able to get traction or more than likely missed 2nd or maybe he just beat the crap out of his car or maybe yours was just faster anyhow congrats on showing him up.

WRX's aren't very fast cars. And I would find it kind of hard to believe that he lost traction in an AWD car. They only have something like 227 hp. Mid 14 second car stock.

I'll give yah the traction thing cause thats probably why they have so many clutch problems

As far as the power thing so are stock mustangs with a little more wieght. Although I havent seen to many non sti ones here at the local dragstrip but the sti's are low 13's upper 12's with not alot done with a good driver.

Not that I like them or would ever pay 20 some thousand dollars for anything with a shopping cart handle but they run respectable #'s all day long.

Plus I said maybe his was "just faster"

the normal wrx is just plain slow. mid 14 second quarter mile with a 1.8 60 foot. that should tell you right there how piss slow they are stock. once you start modding them though, they can get pretty quick assuming that you can get by the fragile drivetrain. the sti is a totally different animal though. i have killed quite a few mildly modded stangs in mine and i havent done a thing to the car to increase performance. nice kill though. did he give it a good launch or did he just ease into it?

the clutch in the sti is actually quite strong. i have seen the stock clutch handle close to 450whp under quite a few very hard launches without any slipping at all. as far as price goes, i wish i could say i only paid 20 something for the car. i spent nearly as much on the sti as i did on the 03 cobra.

word, thats why im having a hard time deciding between the 03 cobra and the STi...i lvoe em both for different reasons which makes it a very hard decision

well, stock for stock they are extremely close performance wise. i will tell you though, driving them are 2 very different experiences. the sti handles better than any car i have ever driven. as far as acceleration goes though, the experience driving the cobra has the subaru beat hands down. test drive them both and you will see what i mean.

I went for a ride in a friends slightly modded STI a few wks ago and I was quite impressed. It stuck to the road like you would not imagine and it had some nice pull to it. I have quite a bit more respect for them after actually getting to ride in one. Kinda made me think twice about my stang until a day later when I got to go for a ride in a Stage III Roush, and like always Mustangs are still #1

Ever race a non-turbo one? We have a lot of people in town with those who think they're awsome and worth ricing out. I had a guy in a yellow one revving at me one day so I just went for it. I pulled on him like he was barely moving, it was hilarious. I knew he was trying becuase I could hear his car screaming, sounding like it was going to explode. I gave up at 50 and he did his flyby then turned at the next light.

Yeah just to follow up on this post. With your Mods and assuming he just had exhaust thats what I would expect. Good kill. I will say that on the street they have an advantage because of the AWD they can launch the piss out of those cars and most mustang guys have launching trouble on the street as it is. My best friend has a 04 WRX non sti that bone stock went 14.3 which is one of the fastest stock times i have ever heard of. Now about 5 grand later hes down in the low low 13's and should hit 12's pretty soon. They are really nice cars and IMO are not really rice. Honda civics are rice but a wrx is indeed a nice car and one well worth modding. Good Kill bro.

yep,they can launch those things pretty quick...i ran across a non sti a couple weeks ago,and i launched too high,and went side ways as he just took off straight as an arrow...but when i got him from a roll i was able to pull on him pretty good...he did kill me from a stop though.....and i agree i think they are cool little cars,and alot of them certainly aren't rice....
