I'm driving to my parents house from my apartment. My brother is following me in his 94 prelude. I give him crap about it all the time. We get a red light and he switches over to the lane next to me. He gives me no indication he wants to race, but to prepare I pull it down to 1. The light turns green so I just start going as normal. I notice he jumps (or trys to) off the line so I floor it. I look over at him slowly falling behind. He shifts. I immediatly look at the tach thinking I have to shift soon. Nope. We're going 30mph. Still accelerating. Time to shift. Push in the button. Push the shifter into D. Pull it back to 1. The damn handle explodes. He's in the rearview mirror, so I put it in drive and kept on driving. So the rest of the ride home I'm scared I just broke the handle and/or something just flew out the window. A few minutes of searching and I find the spring, then the button, then the handle. phew.

Little side note...hes got one of those noisey exhausts, but hes got some ricer denial. He says his car isn't rice.

I hated when my car was a basically stock AOD. It was very slow, and I myself would have been scared to run similar cars to that, as they might hold up pretty well! Im willing to bet without the gears the race might have been close!

I don't race for bragging rights. Only for pink slips!... I just do it for fun. So far, everything is built except for the engine. You got me wondering what the aod gear ratios are.

My brother told me the other day "I got a new performance header". It took a minute for me to remember he only has 1 header.

Your sig says you have 3.73's, that's what 25th meant.

He probably had an exhaust manifold from the factory, not a header.

I know what 25th was saying. I was wondering what each gear in the transmission was(1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th), not the rear end gear.

He got a header. He showed it to me. I saw it. Whats the problem???

Stock AOD

1st = 2.40
2nd = 1.47
3rd = 1.00
4th = .667

With wide ratio kit

1st = 2.84
2nd = 1.55
3rd = 1.00
4th = .667

That 2.40 first gear is terrile. A t5 has a 3.35 first gear, MUCH better! Trust me, I had an AOD, with 3.73s, a converter and bolt ons and was stuck in the lower 14s!

I wouldn't want my first gear to top out at 30mph. I really don't want my first gear to top out at 30mph when I start building the engine.

Thats true, but then again the tall first gear ratio KILLS how the car launches. My sisters 94 feels like a joke out of the hole (auto with 3.73s) but pulls good in 2nd. I just enjoy a shorter first gear and the pull you get from it!
