Mechanical or Electrical Gauges?

im coming to a conclusion but...


this is the idea i got, when using a mechanical oil pressure. You Tee off from the stock sending unit and use braided line to the gauge. What does or does not come with the gauge? Does it come with a Tee fitting, braided line or anything?

For the water temp mechanical, the nylon tubing they supply, is this tubing of unchangable length since its filled with special inert gas, therefore the line cannot be cut? What dont i understand here, please fill me in before i put in a big order.

For a mech OP gauge, you use brass from the home store to make a Tee fitting so the stock sender can thread in, and your new guage has a place for the brass fitting and line to attach. You could tap the hex extension tube that the stock sender screws into, instead.

Most OP guages come only with nylong line, which you cut to length.

Mech temp guages come with an articulated metal line with a spring around it. You cant cut it. Most lines are 6' long (some are longer). So one has to make sure it will reach.

It replaces the nylon line, but you will still have to go to an auto parts store and buy a "T" fitting in order to run both the factory and Autometer gauge.

Thats what I did and it worked fine. I just told the guy behind the counter to get me a stock sending unit so I could use it as a reference for the size of the "T" that I would need anlong with the brass fitting that Autometer gave me.

So the Mechanical Oil Preassure fits right into the sending unit? but I have to T-it off? so that both gauges work?

You unscrew your sending unit and screw in a "T" fitting. Then you screw your sending unit back in and off the side of the "T" you hook in your line for your Autometer gauge.

Easy enough where can i get the T fitting? what size do i need? and what else should use?

You can get one from the parts store or from the home store. The stock fitting is 1/4" NPT and most aftermarket gauges use a 1/8" NPT fitting.
