Should I Get Mechanical or Electrical Guages for my mustang? What is the difference? The Mech water Guage is 125 and the Electrical Water Guage is $79. Which should I get for oil pressure and water temp?

And Another Question. Do any Longtubes have the EGR Bung that Is needed with our cars?

Elec don't let the (oil, etc..) make it into your car up to the gauge.
I run a elec oil/FP and a mech. water (more precise)

Most guys use a electric oil/fuel due to the fire hazards involved. As mentioned, a mechanical water temperature will provide you with a more accurate reading.

does autometer make a full sweep electric oil pressure, all i can find is mechanical full sweep, i hate the look of the 90 degree sweep guage. also, yes, the BBK longtubes for our cars have a EGR bung

I was in the process of putting in a manual water temp guage this weekend. But I ran into a problem, the guage I bought was a 3331 autometer 2 1/16 guage. The sensor itself will not screw into the intake maniforld because it is too large. Its a two piece fitting and you have to use both in order for the sensor to be properly mounted. I am not about to take the intake maniforld off to tap a larger hole. So beware, I will take this one back monday and try for the 3337 which is an electical guage instead.

yu can buy an adapter for the gauge at an autoparts or hardware store so you dont have to tap the intake

Where did you get those prices??? you can get both AM, 2 1/16 oil/water for less than that 125.00

I have run mechanicals for 2 yrs with zero probs..only thing is your stock gages will be dead, unless you re-do the additional connections for both...which I did as i hated having two dead gages...

Mechancial is no more accurate than electrical -- that's an old myth.

Run the electric for an easier install and no chance of oil inside the car (personal experience!)

What about for a water temp gauge, you still think electric?

They're both equally accurate, but depending on what style guages you want, the graduations won't be as precise. Most mechanical gauges will indicate smaller increments as low as 1 or 2. Most electrical guages are any where from 5-10. I've seen some as high as 15. Ok for oil pressure but not very nice for fuel pressure. JMO

True to a point...you do have to question at which point a pound or two of fuel pressure makes a difference on a gauge -- if tunign you should probably do it on a dyno, if monitoring -- well, I don't know anyone who would shutdown if their pressure dropped from 42 to 40. Regardless, Autometer is making more and more full-sweep electric gauges which makes the issue mute entirely.

Yes they are. That's why I went to an electric fuel pressure this round Saves the hassle of using their isolator to put a mechanical one in
