I've had mechanical before, and had an oil line loosen up and make a mess.

AutoMeter says their electrics are just as accurate as their mechanical gauges -- so that's the way I'm going.

I have been running Mechanical gauges for the last 15 years with no problems.
For the oil line I don't use the plastic hose that comes with the kit. I use the copper line like this.
For $8.95 it works like a charm!

As for the water temp gauge, I use the mechanical also. No fliud to leak here either like stated above.

I like the idea of the water gauge working all the time just like a thermometer. Doesn't need the car on to work. It's a nice thing when you are at the track and waiting to run. You can just glance in and see your temp.

I did the same. Got my tubing from advance for about the same cost. Dont think the plastic is race legal. I ran it on top of the intake with some wire loom around it. Looks great and feels safe too.

It's kind of a running gag guys - there are lots of proposals, but nothing that's universally accepted; and many look at the proponents kind of like quacks. Seems funny to me....

But, to the subject at hand, with today's technology/equipment, no reason to worry about running electrical gauges if that's what you want to run.

I'd never even think of using the plastic tubing -- mine was copper as well. But the fitting loosened up. Maybe it was a fluke, or maybe it wasn't tight -- even though it didn't leak for however long it was in there before -- just one day it started.

It is very thin. Only 1/8" thick. I just used a dremel cut off wheel to trim the excess. But I'm sure other things will work as well as long as you can slide the coupler over the tubing it should be fine.

good to hear

also i've seen those braided lines, where would i get one of those? it seems like it'd be kinda hard to route the copper around under the dash, like it'd bend/break, anyone have any problems with that?

The copper's not difficult to route, or to keep from bending/breaking. Literally millions of cars with a/c and expansion valves have small diameter copper line routed behind the dash with no problems - between the valve and the a/c switch. Braided's great stuff, but you needn't worry about running/routing copper if that's what you want to do. Keep in mind, the braided stainless covers the tubing carrying the liquid - it's usually a teflon or nylon material inside the braid. I'd just route a wire.

You could go the braided line route but it is more expensive $49.75 VS $8.95. Also I have found the copper tubing a lot easier to run because of it's diameter being so small. It is like running something a little larger than a coat hanger over a bulky braided hose. This gives you more room to work with especially when trying to mount the gauge on the A-Pillar. But if you choose the braided tubing kit you can buy it Here .
