u need a adapter screws in the block and the sensor goes in it .Take ur plug to a autoparts store for right size . Most sensors wont screw in the hole and seal there bevealed and have to seat into the fitting or hole size adapter

Did you ever resolve the sending unit problem? I'm fighting this right now ((stock 2004 Mustang GT 4.6L) trying to find a spot to install the sending unit for an Autometer mechanical water temp gauge. I tried the T fitting with the stock sender, readings way off. Also heard the sending unit will bottom out if installed in the hole in the driver's side of the block back by the tranny.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
