what is it? Look under the hood and check.

Two types of merkurs made it here from germany...
the Xr4ti (2.3 turbo charged,non-intercooled)

and

The scorpio
(3.0 (i think?) v6) ..more of the family sedan.

Great cars, small engine bays and known for wiring problems and quirks.

ther are after market companies (rapido) that make front end kits...hood scoop could custom, its not hard. Its a neat little car, pretty rare in the performance world.

The Merkur XR4ti's imported to the states (Euro versions were called Ford Sierra's in various trims) all came with the square-ish headlamps with separate square-ish parking lamps inboard of the headlamps.

What you're describing sounds a lot like the Cosworth-Sierra look-alike parts that are available from companies like Rapido in Oregon. The Cosworth-Sierra is the top of the line tweaked version of the Sierra XR4i as well as the XR4x4 (AWD Version).

If the one that's for sale is in decent enough shape you should consider getting it. Those cars a whole lot of fun to drive. Since most import owners don't know what they are they make perfect sleepers. The automatic tranny-equipped versions turned 145hp and the manual tranny version 195 (if I remember correctly). And they handle very well!

Nothing like digging something up from the past............

My famous London XR4Ti - my second Merkur (1986). Shipped from Arizona to London and then back to America where it was sold (New York). It had a slew of parts off the Cosworth. The hood scoop is from a Mustang SVO and it's fully functional. I sold it when I left America again. It had 4 wheel discs off a Sierra XR4x4 and it's 7" LSD diff. Front suspensions and discs off a Sierra Sapphire 2WD. Turbocoupe Intercooler, SVO VAM, PE chip, Bailey dump valve, K&N air filter and a rebuilt, uprated turbo.
