Method for figuring out rear gears

I did the mark the driveshaft and turn the wheel one complete turn. The mark rotated 4 times. What is this ratio? 3.73? or 4.10? I can't seem to remember. Someone must remmeber what the method is...

probably the 4.10's. the 3.73's would fall short of 4 rotations. 4.10's would rotate just a bit past the 4th rotation.

Its not the most accurate method, but if the mark went just slightly past 4 complete rotations then it's probably 4.XX:1, just under then 3.73's or 3.90's.

hmm, it seemed to be just about 4 rotations exact... i was told it had 3.73s when i got it... but i wasn't sure... guy who sold it to me was a moron

In 4th at 60 mph you will turn just about 2900 rpm with 3.73 gears. With 4.10's.....you'll turn about 3200 in 4th.

i think he does not know if his speedo gear is correct for the gears - so the MPH comparison might not be exact.

If you want to know the exact ratio, pull the rear cover off, count the number of teeth on the ring and pinion, then divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.
