I have a Stealth intake that I want on my 351w in my 66. I am expecting it not to fit as it sits. I have heard of two methods to help this situation… using 65 style motor mounts and using a drop base air cleaner.
My questions:
1) Which method is more effective? Or should I expect to need to do both?
2) Does carburetor style have much impact on clearance (ie, are Holleys taller than Edelbrocks and other carbs)?
3) I heard that while the 65 mounts are better for clearance, they’re also weaker in standard form. Is this true (and of concern)? If so, does anyone sell a stronger version or sell another mount I should look at?
4) I currently have a 14x3” chrome air cleaner, and I like how it looks. The surface that mounts on top of the carburetor is about an inch or two above where the bottom of the filter sits at the outside of the ‘disc’ (sorry, don’t know exactly what all the parts are called… ). Is this a ‘drop-base’ cleaner already? Will it work? Can someone recommend an air cleaner that looks similar that will (if it won’t)?
