So many things happed in last week and didn't have time to install my new MGW Shifter and knob. Tonight I installed it with new royal purple Max ATF. I change transmission fluid about
year ago with Royal Purple Synchromax manual transmission but seams like Max ATF is the right oil for even 5 speed cause it says " Max ATF significantly reduces heat to extend the life of your transmission and is recommended for all automatic transmissions requiring Ford Mercon® or GM Dexron® III transmission fluids ". I think my gasket moved when I did the install so I might have to tear it all apart tomorrow.

I bought 5quats of oil and used 4.5 quarts.

Install is done on 2002 Mustang GT with 5 speed Manual Transmission.
Here are some Pictures. Enjoy

Way, WAY too much fluid! You're only supposed to use 3.0l (after the fix, but I've never heard of pre-fix trans having problems with 3.0-3.6 liters).

Enjoy the shifter, I like mine.

Damn WOW I drove my car today and let me tell you , steeda tri-x feels long throw shifter compare to mgw. I will like to recommend MGW Short Throw shifter to evey one of you. Beautiful product, well made and works better with no after market shifter noise. I am loving it.

When I installed mine I put in 3.2qts of fluid and it made the tranny horribly loud; It shifter WAY better but it had a metal on metal grinding sound in fifth gear. after 400 miles I put in the rest of what was in the 4rth bottle (to make it 3.8-4.0qts) and the sound went away. It didnt shift AS smooth, but still much better than it did with the OEM fluid. I used a non-synthetic, based on what I read throughout the forums.

What does all this mean- I have no idea

You have to put at least 4qts or till it over flow from the fill hole, that what hayner manual says.

I've been thinking about getting one of those, too. Got a Pro 5.0 now that I've had for about 50K miles. Seems like it's gotten harder to shift over time.

Where'd you buy and how much?

We are talking about a TR-3650 tranny here...you need 3.2L according to the updated Ford release, 3.6 according to the orriginal papers.

3.2 was decided after peopel were having trouble with 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

I would put in 3.4-5 AT MOST.

hmm.. i have 3.0 quarts in mine and it makes some terrible grinding noises at low rpm. shifter gasket didnt help much,

what fluid should i change out for? and how much? if 4 quarts will shut it up, im goin with 4. im pretty strong so a tough shifter dosent bother me at all if thats what adding more would do.

should have made a high temperature silicone gasket and put it between the transmission and the shifterbase.

I have no heat transfer whatsoever and it is very very quiet.

I have a Steeda Tri-Ax & I like it better than the stocker it replaced, but this is the only aftermarket shifter ive ever had, so its all I know. It has a nice throw, but its kinda notchy though. Is the MGW really That much better that I should reinvest in another shifter?

No, I would'nt blow more money to get an MGW if the Tri-Ax your using is working fine. If you hated the Tri-Ax, then I could see getting an MGW but since you don't, I would'nt. But I am glad my first choice was an MGW.

The only reason I went with the Tri Ax was because I got it for $129 shipped....They retail for about $179.
