Sorry to waste space with this new thread instead of re-posting on the original!! I spoke to George from MGW and he sais basically due to the design of the shifter i.e. it's a more solid unit then the factory one, all that I was feeling is normal. As for the notchy shifting George told me to play with the through adjustment and the handle length until it feels comfortable to me. 
P.S. He also sais NEVER rest your hand on the top of shifter it can ruin it and/or tranny. Only time your hand should be on it is when shifting, apparently these linkage style tranny's are very sensitive.
