Midst of a 408 build

Ok well I ended up with an 84 block purchased the 408 stroker kit from scat(10.5 pistons with 58cc heads). And have the main support kit from dssracing.com. Ive been stuck on stuff for the top end. My problem is I dont know what rockers or cam to buy. Im pretty certain on afr 185s. But dont know if they will work.

why wouldnt the afr's work?

the cam choice is gonna depend on what kinda power and at rpm ya want the power. what you plan on doin with the car, N/A or boosted.... you see where im goin with this?

AFR 185's may be a bit small for a 408.. might look at the 205's or some of the brodix heads..

what type of cam? 84 didnt have the hyd roller, so unless you retrofit everything, or switch blocks, you cant run a hyd roller..

for a cam use the performer rpm cam from edelbrock, or the xe282h from comp cams. both will do what you want. for heads, use the afr 205's or the roush 200's. and for rocker arms use the comp cams pro magnum rockers. they have a steel body and large trunions for durability and strength, and yet they are fairly light.

i would go all compcams on the valvetrain. the xe282h would be a good cam especially in a 408, i would also go with the pro magnum rockers as well. as for the heads i think yuo would be ok with the 185's if don't plan on revving the engine too high, under 6k. if you're going to wind it out and get the most of those extra 57 cubes the 205's would probably be a better choice. i'd say up to 7500 or a little less. the problem with going to big on the heads is that you lose a lot of mixture velocity, so if you don't plan on revving past say 6 grand i would go with the 185's honestly, plus you'll have an insane amount of torque in the low end.
