I have to do some mig welding on my 92 ranger and was wondering if most people disconnect the battery or just leave it and weld. My concern is I don't want to potentially fry the computer. Would running a chain or wire and grounding from the frame to the ground be sufficient?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Just disconnect the positive on the battery. What your worried about is backfeeding the ground side of the system. Using a set of jumper cables to ground the body to a metal fence post or if your in a metal shop building, to structure, sure wouldn't hurt.

You really should disconnect the computer and it's ground also. I always take the computer all the way out just to be safe.
