So, it is SMOG time and my car had a CEL. My code reader told me the MIL was on. I just completed some DIY MIL Eliminators for $5.40, and the light is now off, and I'm sure I'll pass SMOG at the end of the week. Never-the-less...
...I am hoping someone is familiar with the symptoms and has an understanding of the real fix in this case. I have the stock mid-pipe and just over 85K miles on my '00 GT.
Cats going out? O2 sensors bad? Only have the MIL on, everything else is good - O2 sensor, O2 heater, 0 codes, etc. MIL Eliminators got rid of my CEL. How it began:
The CEL started coming on ~6 months ago, but once the engine had been on for >30 seconds or so, I could turn the car off and right back on and the CEL would then be off, every single time.
About a month or two ago, the CEL quit going back off when I would restart the car like that.
Seemed like a bit of heat going through the exhaust system would bring everything right back into line. However, immediately upon starting the car when cold, there was the CEL - every time.
Thanks for any advice on what the actual cause is likely to be.
