I'm in a dilema. I'll be back in the states not too long from now and about that time I would have compiled up and around 3 - 4 grand. I can do one of two things;

1. Mod the hell out of my 2000 GT 5 Speed with a Stroker Kit and Cams or Heads, Cams, LTs and Prochamber.

-OR-

2. Trade-in for a '03 or '04 Cobra?

Which do you think? Check sig for my current mods.

Cobra...but only if u can afford the increased gas expenses, increased insurance rates on top of the $500 monthly for the Cobra

Thanks for the quick replies. I've been dieing for a Cobra since they came out with the blower. I just needed the reinsurance from my fellow stangers.

There's not that much of an increase as far as money goes. I would only be paying 50 more a month on payments, 25 on insurance, and I already put 93 octaine while driving like a mad man (but not a stupid one) so gas wouldn't be too big of an issue espacially with 3:73s I have now.

Thanks for the help and yes, I do feel stupid for asking, but I had to give it a try

If I were you, this is what I'd do.....

Find one of the 03's or 04's that was outrageously overpriced when it was first put on the lot, and they've now dropped the price a good bit, or find a slightly used one. You should be able to save a nice lil mint that way IMO....

Take the parts off you car, return it to stock as much as you can....

That way after you trade it in, you'll have saved the $$$ as compared to ordering a new $45,000 Cobra, and you'll have the parts so that you can sell/trade and get the funds (or trade for) mods for the Cobra

Seriously though, only go for the cobra if you can afford the increased expenses related to it, like previously mentioned.. but man... whoo those are SICK cars!

Take your 3000.00 and put it in a Mutual Fund and make hopefully 5% or better on it. Get a Cobra put 1000.00 down or less at 3.5%. Cobra's and Stangs are one of the best resale American Cars so you will not lose a ton on depreciation and hopefully your 3000 in the bank will offset this anyway? Probably not these days but you will not lose the 3000.00 you started with.

The thing is you are starting stock at 390hp with little effort on the engine. If you go stroker on your current Stang to get an extra 130hp you are tipping the tide to reduce reliability. Heck you can buy a Smaller Pulley and lower your back pressure on a Cobra and you are like at 450+ hp. The beauty of the blower car is that when driving easy at low pressure it is very easy on the engine. You can also change out the pulleys for track use or street. Nice versatility.

I'll be different - If you are almost done paying of your current Stang, then I'd mod that. In the long run it'll cost you alot less money. Teh Cobra is sweet, but another 5 years of payments is alot of coin. Think of what you could do to your car if you had no payment!

Nobody asked how many miles are on the GT? If you have low miles, then I'm with NasaGT...mod the current one. The newer Cobras are awesome, no doubt about it, but just imagine the look on a C5 owners face when a regular GT beats the pants off him.
