Just wondering if any of you have had a lower gear like a 3.55 or a 3.73 and then swapped to the 4.10. If so, what did you gain at the track? I'm planning on doing 4.10's as my next mod. What else is needed/should I do with the gears?

i have 4.10's on mine and i'm changing to 3.55's...the 4.10's are great for the track but around town 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are useless and this is with 275 BFG's on the back. i have not gone to the track yet so i can't tell you about times. but to swap the gears you can get a rear end swap kit from summit or e-bay that has everything you need. Not sure what else you already have done but it would be the perfect time to either rebuild you trac-lock or upgrade to something else more suitable to your power level, along with stronger axles.

i run 4.10's all around highway town. i love em ill never go back to a higher gear

as soon as my motor is done and in the car im going upto a 4.56 and run a 275/60/15

my cam wont come in until until 3400 rpms so the extra gear will help...

Yeah. My custom cam has a 3200-6400 rpm powerband. I need the extra gear for the combo. Also my rear end hums so by changing the gears and bearings i'll be fixing it as well. I'm also considering 4.30's since I did a gear calculator and the rpm difference on the highway is less than 150 rpm's over a 4.10. I really don't go over 70mph on the highway anyway. 70 in 5th gear with my 245/50/16's and a 4.30 gear comes to about 2682 rpm, 2557 with a 4.10 and 2327 with a 3.73.

No, I don't have slocks. Nitto dr's.

well, as long as you hook up...I'm guessing you already have upgraded rear suspension...or at least intention of upgrading...?

man, 4.30's are gonna wind up damn quick-good luck, and don't forget to wear a g-suit!

I think the 4.10's are my best overall bet. I would love the pull in first and second with the 4.30's, but I think the 4.10 is the way for me. I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, get the needed extra gear for my combo and fix my rear since it makes some humming noises. I'd do new bearings and seals while i'm there even though I did them a few years ago.

Mike,

Unless you have a rev extender and/or tall tires a car like yours will run out of gear.

I say get the 4.30s and trade off the nittos for some stickies.

3200-6400 is perfect for 4.30s.

I have a PMS and I can change the rev limiter to where I want it. Right now I have it set for 6,600 rpm.

I've decided 4.10's are my best bet.

Anyone else have any results from their swap?

ill advised

I don't have any direct before/after numbers. All I know is the car felt 10x better after going from 3.73 to 4.10. Ran the 3.73 for 5 years. It was more than enough until the cam swap (comes on at about 2800).

The 4.10 gears are a major part of how I got into the 12's without a ton of power. They were a hugh improvement over the 3.08's. With the converter, and street tires they were useless, but with BFG's they were dynamite.

I have 4.56's in another axle, that I ran once in the eigth, and took out to run the quarter at FFW. I did not get a good direct comparison, but I think there is something there.
