Mods That Wont Hurt MPG?

Im not to sure on the mods that wont hurt, but theres something you can do that WILL help. I had all the mods in my sig, including the bcam (suposed to drastically hurt your mpg) and 3.08 gears. I was getting 12mpg. I went to 3.73, and decided i had to do something, i changed my fuel filter (it was stock) when i poured the fuel out it was BLACK, i changed the stock air filter to a k&n panel filter, and put fuel injector cleaner in it, and used sea foam. At the end of the tank i went from 12mpg to 17.5! I was extremely happy and get 240miles to a tank now ONLY CITY driving, car never sees a highway. If you havent done that stuff i would suggest doing it.

Yeah I need to get some Injector cleaner...

What brand???

I changed the fuel filter last night and it was pretty bad. I might also change the Charcoal canister, depending on how it looks. (emissions tests suck...)

Also, how hard would it be to wire some separate 2" oil pressure and water temp gauges?

Thanks.

Have any pics of your volvo?

You can PM them to me if you want.

Plan on using a A pillar mount for the latter 2.
Tell us more about what style of gauge (elec or mech) and more specific help can be provided. Either way, it is simple. I would plan on a couple hours for the install if you are a slow poke like me.

Good luck.

Well definately a Mech. for the fuel pressure.

The other 2 I dunno. I would want something more reliable than the stock gauges...

What would you recomend?

Elec and mech gauges are about equally accurate these days. So it comes down to personal preference. I choose to run elec OP gauges to pillars, just in case one decides to leak. I dont like the narrow sweep of most elec gauges however. But the trade-off is worth it IMHO.

For temp, I run a mech temp gauge. The capillary tube carries an inert gas - not coolant. So no leak issues. And I like the full sweep.

Anything you choose will be more accurate than the stock gauges so you cant go too far wrong. Really just choose what fits your taste.

Good luck.

I am a big fan of the autometer sport comp gauges. The gray rims, and optional green backlighting match my gray interior fairly well.
I have never heard any complaint about any autometer product though.

my thoughts

what would be involved in installing the Water Temp and Oil Pressure gauges?

obviously power to the gauges, and some sensors... And the Autometer Lunar gauges light up similar to the stock backlight?

I love tech articles...

Im currently going to community college...(trying to get my ASE)
Id rather ask too many questions and get it done right.

Thanks everyone.

I believe autometer has tech/installation articles on their site, if you can dig through all of the junk to find it.

I would help more but I just took my sleep aid and typing is getting difficult.

Come back if yuo have more q's though

No one mentioned this but lightweight rims can really help gas mileage. Lightweight driveshaft was already mentioned and ummm.. hmmm

lets see... well anything that makes your car lighter and ESPECIALLY rotating mass will help your gas mileage. I have quit a bit of mods and get decent mileage on the highway but it depends how i drive.
