I got a call today from a buddy of mine. He can get me a 03 mach 1 motor, transmission, computer, and exhaust for $3,000. The motor has 25,000 miles on it.
I have a stock 5.0 that I was gonna build up but this has me thinking. What all would be needed to drop that bad boy into a 95 GT? Would you go with the mod motor over a built 302? I"m just worried in the long run this motor would be alot harder to get installed and running than would be worth. So any input at all would be great. Thanks

I'd buy it in a heartbeat and throw it in my car if I were you. The possibilities of that combo are limitless, and its complete. It does seem fishy to see an '03 mach 1 motor with that many miles, but maybe someone like me that drives 700+miles/week had it. I'd call placed like Sean Highland and Paul's High Performance and see what they say on the swap. Sean highland is $$$ but maybe they can at least give you some direction. The K member shouldn't be a problem if the right motormounts are used. I'd start looking for others that have done it and see what they say.

I second the kit car idea.

I know people have done it, so it's possible. I do think you need to swap the K-Member for one out of a 96+ car, our use an aftermarket one like MM, for example. You *might* need to switch to hydroboost because of clearance problems (my understanding is that is the reason Ford went to Hydroboost, because of the width of the modular motors). Might not need the same clearance as Ford would require for production, though...

Personally I'd use the money to build a decent pushrod motor. CHP 347 + Trickflow kit :nice:. That's more than $3000, but OTOH so will a Mach 1 motor swap after you buy the extras to make it work.

Well I went to go check it out last night. I can't believe how big these mod motors are. lol The heads are huge!
Everything looks nice. He's got the motor minus the shaker, airbox inlet, headers, h-pipe, cat back, ECU, wiring harness, pedal assembly, shifter, 5-speed, and k-member. The motor has 25K on it, but is from Canada so that would be 25,000 kilometers. Not sure what that translates to in miles.
I guess for the swap I would need to find out if the k-member fits into my car. Or else get a 96+ k-member. Convert to hydraboost. Get some 96-98 cobra fuel rails so I wouldn't use the returnless fuel system, and then a custom chip to turn off some of the ECU's parameters. If I were to do the swap, I'd actually hold off until I could afford some longtubes to throw on it with an offroad x-pipe. So whats everyone think? Go for it? Keep in mind my car is stock so I'm not losing any money off 5.0 performance parts. Then I could always turn around and sell my 5.0 with tyranny and ECU and harness and stuff to someone looking to swap a 5.0 into a fox or something. Recuperate some of my money back ya know.

In the end, I think a H/C/I 5.0 would net around the same RWHP as the mach 1 with full exhaust? Whats everyone else think? Not to mention it would idle and drive more smoothly.
