I just bought a 1990 5.0 Coupe about 2 months ago and had a question about the molding. There are some scuffs and various places on the black moldings that wrap around the car. Does anyone know if there is a way to sand these moldings? I'm going to get it painted soon and will be painting them white as well. I'm afraid if I don't do something it will show in the paint... If anyone has any suggestions let me know? These pieces are expensive new...

It depends, if it has a matte finish or if it's smooth already. If it has a matte finish you can't sand it without it showing after paint unless you sand all the moldings smooth.

But yes, you can sand out some small stuff but deeper scratches should be filled first, then sanded.

Then I don't think you can do anything but replace the bad one's. It's going to be a crap ton of work to get them ready to paint so it looks right. I would reccomend getting a painted set from a junk yard, since your getting it painted anyway color won't matter so you can pick and choose the best pieces. That would save you a few weeks of prep, or a pro body guy a couple days. Time is money too.
