Got my Mongoose kit installed this weekend and pretty happy the way everything went together. I have concerns over the noise the Vortech is making though especially noticeable at idle - sounds kind of like an ice machine grinding! Did a search on previous posts and saw that the idler pulleys could be rubbing or the spacer has been missed out on the left hand side - I've checked these and all ok. I've also checked that I'm getting oil to the unit.

You can feel backlash in the gears when turning by hand but it still makes kind of a 'clunking' sound. I've posted up vids on youtube of the car running and turning the s/c pulley by hand. Let me know what you guys think. It's a V2SQ by the way.

The links aren't working.

Anyway, I thought Vortech's were loud SC's in general. I think it's normal to hear the gears turning, but I'm not totally sure.

I have the V2SQ and although it's loud, I definitely wouldn't describe it as an ice machine grinding. Mine's much more of a smooth whistle.
Here's a video of it the night i finished it:

I hope you get it resolved! Good luck.

I dont think I would drive it like that. There could be something seriously wrong with the blower which in turn could screw up your car. It should have a whistle no ginding noise of any kind.

Try to listen to hear if its coming from inside the blower.

Now that I heard the video, I wouldn't drive it. Send it to Vortech/MPH to have it inspected.

He is in the UK guys!

Is there anyone in the UK that can recommend a local shop that can help with this? I can't imagine the wasted shipping cost and delays through customs that this will cause.

Calling all UK stangers... Help this man out!

that's what im trying to do bro... it's important that the few UK stangers we have over here help each other out....

So, I got home from work and removed the belt... i tried my pulley, shaking it like yours and it makes the same kinda noises, I have a video that I'm trying to upload now too. It freeked me out slightly so I called Paxton (mines a new novi 2000). The tech guy there said it was just normall gear noise and that it wont cause a problem.

I asked him about yours too, since vortech/paxton are now merged, he said it sounded like regular gear lash too.

It might be worth emailing MPH a link to the video and see what they think. If its a warranty job, there is a paxton dealer over here, but Im not sure if he does warrenty repairs. I thikn he's just sales, and maybe even Paxton only ???

I'll link to my video once its up...

Nice... How does your s/c sound running? Does it have that Clacking sound? That would be more of a concern to me than the "looseness" that your video shows.

By the way do you drive your stang every day in the UK?

Check the belt and w/not... Also, could be an oil supply problem, the feed line could be starved (could have debris in it), the oil feeder nozzle could be broken (common), or the drain is clogged.

but it makes that lasking clunk without the belt attatched, the grinding noise is worrying though, might be worth checking the oiling as he says...

Thanks for your input guys and thanks for EDGE Motorsport taking the time to put up that video! I checked it was getting oil by removing the drain hose while I had the car running - oil everywhere! Definately getting oil. I took the blower off the car again this morning and had a good look at it. I now know that clacking sound is the backlash but when I spin the pulley with a constant force I get a faint metallic knocking noise as can be heard in the video.

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-3253737149967847290

When I first start the car and everything is cold the unit sounds not too bad but once it has warmed up it makes a quite a racket. Still waiting for input from Vortech....

Vortech should send u a replacement head unit no problem, call them up and they should send you return shipping label for the current bad blower too.
