Fedex came by today to pick up the Vortech. I had an email yesterday from Vortech saying they thought th e noise was normal so I called them up an told them it was unacceptable. Turn around should be 1 1/2 weeks plus shipping time. I will playing the waiting game again!

First of all, the vid when you are turning the blower with a wrench, you are spinning it the wrong way...

Second, yeah, that backlash sounds horrible. I got a used V1 and there wasn't any backlash at all, just smooth spinning with the blower. Good thing vortech has good customer support.

I double checked, I am spinning the corect way with the wrench - it looks wrong because the bracket is upside down and facing the camera. It sounds even worse in the other direction! LOL! Hopefully Vortech should get it back next week so they can get me another one out ASAP!

I bought my V1 new almost 4 years ago. It had some backlash been working ever since.

probably quite a lot dude as the blower probably weighs close to 30lbs.... and through fedex that's gotta be around $400 each way if not more

If your blow off valve isnt hooked to a good vacume line it wont open at idle and it will sound like a ice machine grinding. I thought my procharger was bad but when i started it I noticed that the bov wasnt opening. Have a friend start it for you and see if the valve on the bov moves. If it doesnt, move it manually and see if the noise goes away.

THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE MY CAR DID!!! Try that befor you send it back. It sounds stupid but it might save you tons of money on the shipping especially if there isnt anything wrong with the blower.

Well that's one thing I didn't check!! Maybe an expensive mistake? I have sent the unit back now and it is already at Vortech. Cost me £100 (about $200) so wasn't cheap. I had the bypass valve hooked into the red vacuum line on the car. However the noise did seem to get louder when I increased the engine rpm. I guess I'll have to wait now to see what Vortech say. I was kind of reluctant to drive the car with that noise and was so **ssed off I sent the unit straight back!

I checked my bypass valve last night the way I had it hooked up with the Vortech and it was operating fine so I don't think that was the problem. Just waiting for Vortech now....

hmmm when i had my blower on my old motor just a few months ago my car sounded the same

i think its just gear noise i have never had a problem with that blower

now i did notice the grinding noise more when i changed the oil or when the car was cold

but once she warmed up the noise could bearly be heard just a nice winding sound

i have the blower in my hand right now and i am spinning it and it sounds kinda like yours did when you were turning it with the wrench hehe no oil means noise

Well got the supercharger back from Vortech today. I was told it had a minor rebuild with new bearings & seals but no other info was available. I've now got it back on the car and it seems a little better although still quite noisy. I just feel much better having sent it back for them to check and it's given me peace of mind. After looking at loads of Vortech video clips I would say it's probably ok. I'm going to the dyno on Wednesday afternoon so I'll keep you posted!

Edge - do you have your car running yet?
