Ok - so I've been lurking around here for awhile - reading most of what's going on, and I've got some questions.

I have an '01 GT vert and been looking for some 'cheap' ($4000 for a supercharger = not cheap) mods with big payoffs. From everything that I have read here and on other sites, I have come to one conclusion. There are none.

I used to have a '94 GT vert and there seemed to be so many more things available for the 5.0. Yes it has been around a lot longer, I know, but it just seemed to benefit more from things like the CAI, intakes, exhaust, etc.

So, I ask you this - did Ford do a helluva job on the 4.6 motor and get it right from the start, did they do a bad job on the 5.0 and left it up to the aftermarket to pick up the slack, or is the aftermarket slow to get on the ball (it's been about 8 years), or am I just smokin' crack and missing the obvious.

Suggestions, observations, and rants welcome! Thanks for your advice.

cheap mods with a big payoff. :rlaugh:

seriously, the only "cheap big payoff" would be gears. but even that can get pricey if you have to pay for the install.

nitrous can be good, but if you don't do it correctly, you will easily blow the engine.

the 4.6L has potential, but the aftermarket is slow to come out with new products for it. we don't have the support quite like the 5.0L.

now what do you consider "cheap"?

- if you have a manual, a shifter is a good mod... pro 5.0 or steeda tri-ax
- 4.10 gears is definitly a sweet mod
- steeda underdrive pullies and timing adjuster

probably some others, people will chime in with their suggestions, but there are some good little mods out there. although getting blown is a popular one that needs no explanation. i'm in the same boat though, not enough cash for one.

Ok ok ok...I know....cheap with big payoff - should have put that in quotes! :p

I would consider $300 - $700 reasonable, but it would need to come with 20 - 30 HP. I just got through reading the plenum test that was done by Matt?? and 6 HP gains for what, $300? Not really what I am looking for...

We'll since you said you want mods with big payoff's I say
get a Nitrous kit because you will probaly will be disapointed
if you just did bolt-ons,gears etc. From what you said you
don't have the cash for a supercharger so,if I were you I
would do yourself a favor and just get a Nitrous kit.Bolt-ons
on your old 94 GT vert. would probaly get you bigger payoff's
than on a 4.6L because it's just the way it is Dan.I highly
subjest for you a Nitrous kit from Dallas Mustang.Nitrous
Express will get you the big payoff your looking for.
Part#7901 Dallas Mustangs toll free number is 1-800-Mustang
and I would get a 100hp wet shot or a 150hp wet shot
with all the saftey goodies for your 2001 Mustang GT.
Trust me you will not be disapointed Dan!
