Ok so I know I have seen this asked on here over and over, but now that I need the info I can't find it.

What is the widest tire with a lot of sidewall height that I can fit on the stock 17X8 wheels? I know there are a million 255's out there to pick from but can I get some 275 on there and still drive the car without fear of rolling the tire off the rim.

Also is anyone out there running Sumitomo's either the HTR Z or HTR Z II?

Thanks for the advice in advance

275 is really pushing it on an 8" wheel. 8.5" is ok, but on a 8" wheel, the widest you'd probably want to go is 255.

Stock wheels I believe are 8.5'' wide. my 93 Cobras on my 5.0 are 8.5 wide and I have 275s on the rear. They fit the wheel perfect, IMO. On the front I have 245's and they look too small. I can't see how my 18's on the 07 look just fine with 235's when they're 8.5'' wide. But they do.

I went with the Kuhmo Ecsta SPT's in 255/50/17 from Tirerack. 8" is the minimum rim width for the Kuhmo's, so I would be surprised if you could safely use anything wider.

However they do bulge out a little bit for the "old school" look.

The nice this is that they are within .1" in diameter of the Pirelli's, so there is no change to the speedometer.
