Now that I have seen the Bullitt wheels (17x8), I am torn between 16x8 Shelby 10 spokes (V50) or 17x8 Grey Bullitts. Tires would be 225 front and 245 rear. I need your input please.

Also: is there anything special about Nitto 555 besides the price??

have you looked at the american racing torq-thrust d's? those are the original bullitt rims...

I think 17s look very nice on the vintage mustang and you avoid any possible problems with the front rim being a 16 and possible upper ball joint issues

I run the Nitto 555 on my 65. Great tire, the way I decided to buy them was this, top of the line nitto was cheaper or about equal to the entry level of a more well known tire brand giving similar performance specs (like the protenza) so I figured 'what the heck' they were cheap enough that if I didn't like them, I could just burn through them and buy something different. Well, I love em.

They just aren't too good in 2 inches of fresh unpacked powder going uphill. hehe...I had to get the mustang out of the garage and up my long (1/8) mostly downhill driveway last weekend....it made it to the top but ti took 4-5k in 2nd gear and I went about an inch a minute slightly sideways.

You can also save yourself the hassle of having to buy bolt on spacers to run the late model bullit wheels and buy a set of v40 or v45 from vintage wheel works which you can get in 17x8 with off the shelf backspacing that works good on the classic mustang: http://www.streetortrack.com/vintage-wheel-works.asp

I don't know of any dealer that carries both the Nittos and the VIntage Auto wheels. I got my Nitto from here: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.jsp

I buy a lot of stuff from Street or Track http://www.streetortrack.com because I know the guys who started the company from another on-line forum....they are good guys and the prices are in line with most other places I have been....except they usually have a little better price on shipping because they don't use it as an adidtional revnue stream.

When I bought my TTiis though, I bought them at a swap meet from a vendor. If you are in no hurry, you might want to go spring carlisle (if you are an east coaster) or one of the good guy show and swaps on the west coast and see if you can pick them up a little cheaper than retail.

My buddy runs the Nitto 555s on his ride, and the only complaint he has is that he goes through a set every year. he loves them though. Its supposed to be real soft compound.

My car (the 67) is not a daily driver, let alone a weekly driver. She only comes out for special events and when I feel like stirring up trouble. I think the Nittos might be the way to go. Now if I could just find somone that has V45s (or 50s) and Nitto's.

summit has the 17x8 bullitt replicas with the correct offset for classic stangs. i believe i paid around 179 each for them. plus the shipping was free.
