I just purchased some 390s and a master install kit.what im wondering is if I measure the pinion head plus the shim on the original 308s pinion gear, can I just do the math and come up with the shim to use on the new pinion gear?
I would think it would put you close but not for sure, Mine were setup by differant methods and the math came out perfect but with about a 1k on richmond gears they have a slight wine at very low load, not enough to bother you but you can tell. Maybe with more miles it will fix itself. I've had a few sets of gears in differant mustangs and some have quieted down. So even if the shims are right they still might make a little noise.
