Maybe he likes the idea of a motor that has a larger bore than stroke. That's what made those small blocks happy to rev and make good power doing it.
If your really considering twin turbo's, you can make more power than you'll know what to do with. The ol' 5.0 block tends to break in half above 500hp, but I'm not sure what the 4.6 block can handle when filled with proper rods and pistons.
For anyone to make an actaul recommendation, you need to say what the plan for the engine will be.. hp level, daily driven or not, power adders, ect. For example, taking the 302 to 347 puts the piston pin in the ring pack... not good for oil consumption or adding lots of boost.
