Bought some Anchor Brand Motor Mounts from Autozone for my 90 GT AOD. Got them home and realized that even though the boxes had two different part numbers, I still managed to get two left hand side mounts.

Went back to AZ and showed the counter guy my original (completely disentegrated) RH mount, and the mount that came in the RH box (studs are in completely diferenting places) He then proceeded to tell me that they didnt have any more in stock, so then he asked me if I needed to order one into stock?..I replied, well yes please, unless you are going to hold up one side of my engine while I drive around :).

So now after all of that mess, and getting the correct mount, and bolting it to the block, installing my new BBK EL Ceramic Shorties, and new plugs. I get under the car to tighten the Motor Mount Net, and find that it doesnt fit. I was able to thread it on a little ways by hand....and then about 1/2" up it starts to bind. Did a search on the forum and found that someone else had found the same issue...and the stud is metric.

So rather than pulling my mount out, does anyone know what thread type the stud is, so I can get some new Motor Mount nuts ?

(PS before you think, I should have got good mounts from summit, I had them on back order, and they were going to take 3 weeks to get :(

This is a common problem with other aftermarket motor mounts. I understand that most guys just re-use the old stock bolts which is kinda sad as you're using an old "fatigued" part in conjunction with a new part.

Unfortunately there is no stock bolt to reuse, the stud is welded to the bottom plate of the motor Mount. So The only way to get around it , is new Nuts (metric i am led to believe)

Yawie has the right idea. The vert mounts are better and cheaper too. I had the same problem with autozone motor mounts. I tried to impact on the original nuts and broke the studs loose on more than one mount before I realized that the nut didn't fit. I was so frustrated that I bought solid mounts and I haven't had any problems since!

What I dont understand is why a stock replacement mount, doesnt use the same thread type on the stud, or give you the replacement nut that fits the thread.....sounds pretty stupid to me.

I'd love to get some mounts from energy suspension, but I aint taking the headers off again to get to it.

yep, some have metric threads - i might guess they changed the outsourcing source.

vert mounts are the way to go - or ask for mounts for any 93 - ford went with the captured mount for all cars by then.

good luck.

Anchor mounts are let's say... barely adequate ... the company basically manufactures pieces to fill a void ... the energy suspension mounts are excellent, or you can buy the Anchor convertible mounts and they'll bolt right in.

Reuse the factory nuts if you can, if not take the new mount to your local hardware store like Lowe's or whatever.
