I was at that round up, by the way... Very nice show! Parked in the next row right behind you, I believe. Got a poster signed by Steve. Did you by chance have him sign your dash like some others did? I wonder how much that increased the value of the Saleens that were signed, if any at all...

I plan on a power adder in the future but for now, I'm just a military man trying to earn a living and build my stang the best I can with what I'm givin. Some day its going to be one that I can take to the track and run the crap out of and then put it in the All Ford Round Up the next weekend and show off its beauty. But for now, I drive it back and forth to both my jobs and play when I can.

Get a turbo if your able too. The technology to have them perform is superior to anything else IMO. I understand the money thing, it is what it is. Constantly adding things will keep you intrested in the hobby. This is a main reason why people build awsome rides, then end of selling them. They get bored with it. Anytime I get bored, I just do add another mod or change something else that perks my intrest again.

Some may think it adds value but Steve has signed soooo many things over the years including clones so probably not anytime soon. Now, when he kicks the bucket then maybe it might.....But I would rather have ole man Sheby's sig on one of them older Sheby Stangs from the 60's

Looks good. Would have been right there to help had I been home but I'm off saving for my next projects. I'll have to have you over to see my new setup after I get back. Going for really big numbers on a 3.4 Whipple with spray when I get back.

Brian,

Glad to hear it all worked out well for you. Remember, when you have another open weekend to do some mods, put that E cam in there. Yes, the motor runs really well right now, but with the ported intake and heads you can probably find 10 hp with the cam swap.

As for the intake opening, I am almost positive that opening was only opened up for a 65mm TB. You might be causing a performace loss by using the 70mm. Could be some turbulence where the air hits that little lip. It's minor, but it would probably be worth pulling the upper back off and grinding it to match your new TB.

When I had that motor in my 5 speed car, I used an 80mm mass air and a 65mm TB and went 109mph. So I know that thing is making some good power for home ported junk yard parts. John did a great job with that little motor.

Enjoy it and let me know if you need anything else. I still have some other parts floating around here you may need some day.

Well, the next project I'm going to be working on with it is the trans. I will be putting the 4r70w gear set in it and a stall. Not to sure on what size stall I want to go with being I drive it alot on the street as well as every chance I get on the track. So I would want something that works good for both. I will also be adding a trans cooler to go with it. Then, in order to keep that power on the street, I need to figure out what is needed to get some street radials on the back tires. Other than that, I need to focus on getting a new helmet now that my DOT will no longer be allowed due to the increase in track time and I guess a fire jacket now. Anyone found a decent place to get the jackets at a fair price? And if anyone has an old helmet that they don't use anymore, I'd love to purchase that as well...

Should be a fun combo. Is the opening on the intake bored cause they only measure 64mm at the opening, so your 70 is a little big for that combo IMO.

The intake was not bored. I ran a 65mm TB on it. I switched from a 65 mm to a 70mm on my 351 car, but I think that change was a waste of money.

That engine liked a lot of advance. I ran 16* initial timing. The more advance I put in, the better the thing ran.

I haven't read this entire post, so you may have answered this already: does the engine still have the stock cam?

He bought the 70mm TB for future use but we had to use it because the 65 mm TB has no provision for the trans tv cable as it was possibly switched over from an explorer.

And why do you suggest that I stay with the stock cam?

Okay, I think you told me that. I forgot. I can't see the 70mm hurting performance in any way.

Al, the CCCA meeting is at my house this Saturday at 2. You should come to the meeting, if you have the time.

There are some gains to be had changing out the stock cam to a better unit. First off an E cam is not a better unit. The camshaft on a roller HO 302 is a very good unit (especially when paired with 1.73 rocker arms and degreed appropriately) and should be about the last thing you should change. With the combo you are running very few people have the knowledge to appropriately pick a camshaft that will has a good chance of improving your performance. Finaly the HP/$ ratio just isn’t very good either.

Is there room for one more to attend the meeting at your place today? Thought I'd show up since this one is actually in our area and I have yet to attend one. Plus, thought you might want to see how the old engine is lookin these days...
