Ok, I have a serious question for everyone. The wife is wanting a different car (already! lol) this time a honda. I have found her one she likes for cheap, but the deal is I get her V6 stang. Now here is my dilemma, I have thought about retiring the V6 with a 5.0 from a fox, so basically doing a fox TB conversion. The swap seems easy enough but at the same time I would also like to get an older 5.0 fox. They seem to be a dime a dozen for cheap around here. So I am wondering what should I do?? 5.0 swap or get a 5.0 fox?? Let me know what you would do!! Thanks!!

What year and condition are the 6er?

My thoughts are that Foxes are usually pretty worn out and even in factory form are not up to snuff of the SN95 and up cars (chassis, brakes, etc). With that being said the 6er is probably a better platform but you need to swap the entire drivetrain. Emissions may be an issue unless it is a 94-95 6er.

With the fox you get the drivetrain and then need to "patch" up the rest of the car. And foxes are jsut plain cool.

So go where your heart desires.

As for me, one of these days I will own a 4 eyed convertible with a healthy sounding v8 for weekend cruise duty... but that is a LONG way aways in this economy....

it would depend on the condition of the two cars. If the v6 is in good condition i'd vote for a swap in that. with the fox, it could be hard to find a good working order one, you might just be inheriting somebody elses problems.

Well the V6 isn't totally trashed but does need some body work. Plus I wouldn't mind having another sn95 5.0. Never can have to many right!! Another question is the V6 auto tranny the same as the one for the 5.0. I wouldn't mind keeping this one an automatic. I really wounldn't mind a fox but 94-302-vert made a hell of a point. It would just be easier. Not real worried about emissions as Indiana doesn't care about it why should I! LOL!

So should I do it?

Keep the V6. You don't HAVE to swap to a V8 to make power. You can put the top end of a Super Coupe on it and have a VERY comparible combo. If I had a 6er and REALLY wanted to have a V8, I'd swap up to a 351w. Even a "stock" one. You're going to pay for a lot of the swap stuff, anyway. Plus, the 5.8 will help overcome the power-sapping automatic.

Being from the area, I'd say to be really picky with the Fox you choose, if you go that way. There's a lot of ratty, beat-up Foxes here in Northern IN. lol

Either way, maybe I'll see you around Hall's some summer night.

yeah I have looked at a couple already. One had mods and a knock and the other had sections of the underbody rotted out! So the fox might be out of the question, unless I find a decent shape roller. But I would rather just do the 5.0 swap.

And you will definetly see me at Hall's a lot this summer!! Me and the rest of the mustang guys of course!!

If you want to go with a v8 setup. I have a 4.6 liter mustang motor, 5 speed transmission, 8.8 rearend, drive shaft, engine and transmission wiring harness, and computers with guage cluster I would sell for 1800.00 If you want it.

I've been told that the V6 tranny bolt pattern is different than the 5.0, and there's no bellhousing to change. - it's all one unit. I don't know it for sure, but it's something to check.

I would also agree about building up the 6. This website has a lot of neat parts that will really wake up the 6:

I thought the same thing, but I was told by another member that they are the same, that's how people can update their autos to the 4R100, E4OD, or whatever is used in the newer cars.

The 5.0 automatic cars got the AODE and the popular swap is to put in a 4R70W from a 1998+ 3.8l car. Should bolt right in. Make sure you use the flywheel that came with the engine. (Should all be 157 tooth.)

The T5 has a problem with flywheel and bellhousing oddities between the V6 and V8.
