hey guys, i have a question for ya 5.0 guys. my friend is looking at getting a 1991 4 cyl as a project car. i think they want 5 or 600 bucks for it. the add says it has an 8.8 rear end and its a 5-spd.

his idea is to swap in a new motor, i would imagine like a 302 or maybe a 351? dunno.

I dont know much about the older stangs. My question is what would it take to swap in a new motor into a stang like that???? any suggestions? any one out there gone through this yet?

unless some one put the 8.8 in on their own, the 4 cylinder cars came with a 7.5 rear. the 4 cyl. T-5's are also not as strong. If those parts are froma 5.0 then it might be a good deal.

By new motor, i assume you mean a DOHC motor. They are cool to have, but its a PITA and not going to be worth anything special as far as performance. If your doing it to be different and take to shows, maybe its worth it. But just as a driver/strip car, go with a pushrod motor.

well i had thought about getting a 2nd car just for the strip and going with a modular motor (but with school coming up, this will have to wait)

but he is looking at a 89 and/or 91. so i assume he is looking at going with a push rod motor (can you even put a modular motor into a fox body?). its funny becuase we work in the same building yet we hardly ever see each other (due to so many people and odd shifts). so we talk via email most of the time.
