I have the 10K (overkill!) model of that tach, it comes with very simple instructions. Other than drilling a hole through the firewall and running wires, it's a breeze. Have you decided where to mount it yet? Most screw it into the dash just to the right of the instrument pod, or Autometer makes a gauge pod that mounts a tach and two 2 5/8 gauges very neatly on the dash.
Most don't disconnect the stock tach, rather have inaccurate gauge to ignore than a dead gauge.

I don't disconnect the stock tach. Just run a wire (green) to the neg side of the coil and pinch it in there. white-12 lighting .... I usually run that off the parking lamps some people run it off the instrument cluster to use the dimmer. Red 12v w/ key in run. Black ---ground.
