Move on to ET Streets?

I bought a used set of Nittos Drags for my 17 rims. They are slightly shorter and narrower than my regular street tires even though I thought they said they were wider.

Anyway, I took them to the track twice.... weather sucked... humid as a MOFO... but these tires hooked WORSE than my street tires. :bang:

I let them down to 17 lbs and they did get a bit better. Tried quick burnouts and even LOOOONG smokey ones. Could not get them to hold the juice on the start line at all. My streets i can juice 6 inches off the line if the track is in good shape and 2 feet off the line if it's not.

I'm glad I bought them used, cause if this is how they are going to act, I wasted my money.

When these are burned up, I'll have my 3,000 stall in - is it time to move on to ET Streets? If so what brand and where can I get a good deal on them? I have 17x9 wheels.

I don't know... I'm getting mid 1.6's out of my 315-35-17 nitto DR's. I got low 1.7's on my 245-50-16 nittos too. ET streets are definitely a good tire in that they hook very well, they are consistent, and they grow a little on the top end if you need that.

i have had pretty good experience with my Nitto's DR's but they were a set of used ones I got from my brother (245/55/16's). They hook up great for me but I have limited HP compared to you with the Juice. He had them on his 347 juiced stang before and never could hook for sh**. Im getting better 60' on those tires than he did, and I have like half the hp. Now he has the BFG's DR's on his supercharged 94 lightning and he says they hook up a LOT better than the nittos DR's ever did. And I havent had any personally experiece with the MT ET streets but I have heard nothing but good things. Prob is time to try something new.

They seem to hook good on the street... just not at the track??? They change my second gear scratch to a little chirp.

I hope to try them again at a different track down here and see how they do. Tomorrow night I may be headed back to the same track I always race on. It's sad to say, but I'm thinking of going on my street tires. It's a long drive and I don't want to fool with the Nittos. :bang: I don't know... maybe I'll change my mind and give them one more shot. It's a long drive, but the weather is better than it was the two times I took them to the track.

I have a buddy running 11.2 at 125 on 15" nitto DR's in his fox. They can hook excellent, but track prep definitely comes into effect. If the track isn't prepped all that well, they will not hook as good as they could. I run ET streets too, and they are definitely "easier" to launch on, BUT my best 60' has only been a 1.65 on them which is only a hundreth quicker than my nitto run.

Paul, I'm surprised that with the auto you have problems, typically autos don't hit the tires as hard. I wish you the best of luck!

Well I was really impressed with them (nitto dr's that is) myself but not until I dropped the psi to like 16 and roasted them really really good. I had heard they didnt hook up until you get them really hot so thats what I did. Seem to work good but Im not hitting the juice like you are. My brother is running 13.1's in his lightning and with the new BFG's DR's he doesnt have the slightest hint of tire spin off the line (1.9 60' with an auto). And before the DR's he was running 13.4's on nitto 450 street tires.

Maybe it has a bit to do with them being 17 inch instead of 15-16????

I honestly had problems waiting to hit the juice til I was rolling out. It was truely sad. 2.0-2.1 were my best 60s and I've hit a 1.98 on my street tires before.

I started out with too much air, kept letting it out... got down to 17lbs and while it did help, it only got me my 2.0 60ft. I was still trapping 106 like on my streets, the first run I did shut down then hit them again and trapped my first ever 108.... I was pretty excited, and then quickly let down.

I'll try to post the videos next week. This week is just too swamped with freelance work to get them ready.

Thanks for the help guys... I may give them another shot tomorrow night if we go.

Maybe that does have somethign to do with it. Are yours 40 series 17's? The shorter sidewall may be your prob. Not enough room to flex and provide the best contact patch. Just a guess.

Awh sh** my 420th post! :D

I have em also. You need a quick, high revving 4-5 second burnout. If you burn too long with the nittos, they get slippery :notnice: I have a set of et-streets with only 8 passes on them if your interested.

I have 315/35/17 Nitto dr's for my street wheels and my best 60' with them is like 1.98. Thats after tons of passes and practice. I put a set of 255/50/16 BFG Comp TA dr's and cut a 1.95 on my first pass, and have a best 60' of 1.92. The Nitto's definitely hook better on the street than on the strip, in my experience. They need some heat, much more than the Comp TA's need, to be sticky.

My opinion is as follows:

Street car with occasional strip (like 1-2x a year) - Nitto's all the way
Street car with extra set of wheels (15 or 16's preferably) - Nitto's for the street, BFG's for the track
High hp car with lots of drag passes - ET Streets on stockers & Nitto's for the street

I would never ever want to run on BFG's on the street. They are very soft, which means they will wear out very quickly, and the sidewall is ultra soft, which kills handling. I have gone to the dragstrip with the Nitto's and ran 14.1's, aired them up and drove to the road course the next day and kept up with alot of faster cars. The Nitto's are a great all-around drag radial that will last 15k if not abused like crazy. I have 20k on mine and they are basically bald, but I have done tons & tons of burnouts/donuts, dragstrip passes, and road course/auto-x events.

Thanks for the posts.... Since they are extra wheels, I really think I'm going to go with ET Streets next time. Or maybe the BFGs and just plan on changing them at the track or close by. I almost alway have buddys with equipment at the track anyway.

The only thing I don't like about this whole nitrous thing is I'm running such a big shot which is great.... but I can't really run off the bottle with stickys on. :bang:

Guess it's time for Heads and a Cam. :D

I cut 1.7's all day on 275/40/17 Nitto Drag Radials with a Zex Dry 100 Shot in my 98.... Do this, go around the water, basck them up where they are at the edge of the water box, heat them for 5-7 seconds or untill they smoke well, then pull foward still on the gas and hold it untill you feel them screach loud, this is what tells you they are ready to go.

I wish I had my in car videos all ready to go so you could see them... that's exactly what I did to get my 2.0X 60fts.
