I got a tranny a while ago from some (who i think is a lying bastard) guy who said the tranny was rebuilt only 25,000 miles ago. So I, my father, and our friend drop the old one out and put the newer one in. Man was i happy after it was done only 4 hours later. so i take it for its first test drive. i drive out of my driveway and up the street, shift into second.....*Griiiiind*, what the hell? it does not grind shifting into 3rd, 4th, or 5th. only shifting from first to second, downshifting into first from second it grinds, and i can't shownshift from 3rd to 2nd (which really kills me when taking 90 degree turns)..does anyone know what the problem is, I put that Redline transmission fluid in, and it doesn't grind as much but still grinds, does anyone know what is definately know what is wrong, it would help.
thanks
Danimal

Double check yourself and make sure that the tranny is full. Just in case some air got trapped in there or something

Did you adjust the clutch? I'm not saying you didn't, but sometimes people forget obvious things when they're really excited about something.

Just in case you don't know the trick...

1. With engine off, put transmission in first.
2. Pull the clutch pedal up all the way with your foot.
3. Press it down very slowly
4. You should hear a click if it needed adjustment.

You don't run a manual transmission full. There is always air in it.

And Danimal, it sounds like your transmission needs a rebuild. Either swap it or pull it out and rebuild it. It sucks, but it will be better than getting stranded somewhere.

LOL ahh T5's!! God i hate them. I had over 1300 into mine and that was just to have it rebuilt. and the tranny never shifted right. I kinda had the same problem though with the grinding and also i had a hard time shifting. On the main shaft the 2nd gear has to C clips holding it if those clips arent locked down the tranny wont work right and also you'll have a hard time shifting because when you shift its trying to turn "which isnt right" and also its cocking the gear side ways "as like downwards a little". This is what was wrong with mine and with only 856 miles on it 2nd gear blew apart inside. I had some extremely helpful guys from AMP here in AZ take apart and examine my tranny and what i said is what they told me. So i just put in a tremec 3550 and have never had a problem since.

I put a steeda clutch adjuster in it, and it still didin't work, so i was thinking it is the tranny...man that guy really F-ed me over. but my dad has a friend at work, and his brother will fix the tranny for about $200 so that is what I am going to do.
thanks for the help everyone
