Moving the Car for Painting

Happy New Year guys………….

Been working these last few weeks, on and off, to get my ’65 Coupe bodywork stripped and ready for paint. The engine has been out for some time. I’ve stripped the engine bay of just about everything except the brake cylinder and the steering. All the exterior trim has been removed, lights, indicators, badges, bumpers, mirrors etc. The trunk has been cleaned out completely.

The car is undrivable so I have a couple of options for moving it to the painter.

1. Pay a tow truck company to move it.
2. Hire a low trailer from U-Haul or similar.

Anybody had any experiences, good or bad, which might point me in the right direction.

i have used AAA or my budy has a flat bet,we bought a electric winch from Harbor Freight and puled it up.Sounds like you only have 2 options????

i am in the same boat, except my 67 is completely stripped. there is literally nothing on it. no suspension, no steering, nothing. I figure I will have to get a trailer and have a few ffriends lift it. Anyone have experience with trying to get just the body somewhere for media blasting and paint?

I thought that AAA would only respond to breakdowns. How did you manage to swing this?

just check how much a flatbed will cost you. Uhaul trailers cost $50 a day anyways, then add in your time and gas. If you can get a towtruck to do it for $70 thats pretty good

I have also done the AAA thing when I needed to get it from shop to shop for these sorts of things. They never question it, pretty cool guys.

I honestly have to say Geordie, when you are so far into this project (and doing really well I might add) the cost of a tow truck should seem like a splash in the pan compared the past years work you've done. Just arrange to have it moved when it isn't raining.

Thanks for the encouragement. I need it. Right now I've reached the point where I look at all the bags and boxes and I'm close to picking the phone directory up and looking for the Junk for Jesus number.

Seriously though I need to get moving in 2006. I've told my kids to start bugging me each week about getting the car finished.

I would opt for the tow Truck with the flat bed. Thats how I took my car
to the body shop last spring. Also make sure you have Full coverage
insurance on it because if it falls off the truck or something bad happens
its pretty much on you. Another trick you can do Is ask the tow truck driver
to put a BS address on there and the to address as the shop. That way if
you have towing on your insurance you can get reimbursed at least one
way for the trip. I wouldn't try that both ways but your safe one way.

nope,they actually picked up a non running Mercedes from my neighbor last night(been sitting for 3 years).Just ask for a flat bed
