any ideas as to why my mph is so high and 1/4 mile so low. W/O the juice, I ran a 13.1 @ 104.94 with a 1.92 60'. This is my best time (1/4 mile and 60') ever w/o juice in this car. I have used nitrous and my mph has been 112 and 113 consistently. I see most cars with these mph's much lower in times.
my best times with nitrous are 12.86 @113.52 with a 2.1 60' time and a 12.84 @113.93 with a 2.14 60' time. are my 60' times that crappy to where it is affecting my 1/4 mile time that much? OR, do you think the clutch could have been slipping, althouhg i couldnt feel it slip. i hope to buy lower control arms this summer when i have a new clutch installed.

thanks--

I would try to get your short times down to the same range as your NA passes and see what your times are then.

You can see the mods for my 93 in my sig and the times and speed. I believe my 60' was around a 2.2 on that pass. I can't get it any better with the stock converter.

I'd say it's probably related to your 60' times more than anything. I see you're running "old DR's," but do you feel any tirespin during a launch, or does it seem your motor's revving higher than you're actually going? What kind of clutch are you running?

I've got the same issue, myself, with a higher MPH and a slow E/T - I ran a 15.0 @ 98 MPH last year, which seems pretty weird to me, but I can't launch for crap with my stock-sized tires and a worn-out set of OEM LCA's. (Bear in mind these things have 200k+ miles on 'em and the bushings have become totally ovaled-out.) Maybe this year I'll get around to putting on some LCA's, battle boxes, and a slightly wider set of tires, and things might not suck as badly - then I'll just have to learn how to drive better.

slips:
2.1
8.4@88
12.8@113.5

2.1
8.47@88
12.8@113.9

NA
1.9
8.4@82
13.1@104.9

the tires didn't break that much during the runs. i thought they were pretty good shifts as well. i think i suck at taking off, but i didn't bog the engine or anything. i think i brought the rpm's up a bit and slipped the clutch and then punched it. i am having a new clutch put in this summer. i figured while the rear main seal is getting fixed I would get that replaced. it was a king cobra in there, getting replaced with the same clutch again.

your sixty foot times are killing your 1/4 mile. For every tenth taken off the first sixty feet you will see 1.5 to 2 tenth off total 1/4 mile time. so on the juice if you could get it to hook 2 tenths better it could be worth close to 4 tenths giving you a lower 12 second run.

I agree, your short time is in need of work. The diff gear isn't optimal but I think you can still get it moving better.

Where the rubber meets the road, well we know what kind of road, but what about the rubber? If your running radials, and any low profile, you need to consider at least some good drag radials an now wheel bigger than 16". It is said ever .1 off the 60ft is .2 off the ET. So, if you got the 60ft down to lets say 1.6-1.7, your ET's would be mid-low 12's considering you would also be able to use the engine 100% all the way down the track.

Definitely work on your 60ft times. Are you spraying the car within the 1st 60ft? If so you're probably spinning the tires when doing so, because your 60ft times dropped 3 tenths from a n/a run to a nitrous run. Wait a little longer to start spraying, get a 1.90 on your nitrous runs, and theoretically you should see a 12.2-12.4 on the spray.

I think I was spraying from 2nd gear on. It is too tough to spray in first and will spin. I'll have to work on the 60' times. I'm getting that new clutch and tires this summer, so I'll see how it goes. Low twelves would be sweet! Now if only I could hit 12's w/o juice, I'd be happy! 105 mph wont cut it though, i dont think!

I think you can get into the 12's with that MPH. You need better tires and probably some suspension mods. I don't see any suspension mods in your sig so i would guess you are on a stock suspeension.

the 114 is good for a high 11 with a good 60'. i had a high 1.8 on my 12.502 run. im still on stock control arms and springs. i recently insalled drag shock but i was cutting the same 1.8 60's without them. my best run on the 80 shot was a 12.65 @110 with a 1.8 60'. im sure i could hit low 12's on that. i only have a few passes on the 125 shot. i should have new control arms and subframes within a week or two. with a 1.5-1.6 60' i hope to see 11's.

I used to have a 71 350 Lemans that did the same thing. Don't laugh. It would pull a 16.3 at 93 MPH with a 3.73 rear gear. The Pontiac engine just didn't have anything down low but once you got it wound up the power came on quick. It was brutal from 55 MPH and up.

the only suspension mod i have are subframe connectors. i might do lower control arms this summer if i can hide them from my wife. maybe that will help with the 1/4 mile times?

agreed- what do people with 16" nittos usually get for 60' times? i dont heat them up much, just a quick burn out to clean them off. maybe ill have someone drive my car so it can reach its fullest potential! i wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with it having such slow times and high mph. thanks for all replies!
