Mr. Clean Car Wash System

Most of the time I am too lazy to hand wash my car but Mr. Clean makes it a hell of alot easier. If you haven't bought one it really does a GREAT JOB. I even use it to hose down my wife after a night of hot lovin!! Just replace the Mr. Clean detergent with something good, I use the Zaino Car Wash. I give Mr. Clean an 8.9 outta 10!! GREAT PRODUCT

I bought this last week and tested it out on my Jetta. I was really impressed with the result and will be using it on the stang (as soon as my zaino gets here).

I got one of those, and I can hand-dry my car one heck of a lot faster than trying to raise it using the "filtered rinse water" setting.

It does work OK, and will dry spotless. It just takes way too much longer. :notnice:

Okay guys - I'm spoiled as my 04 GT typically goes to the detail shop for cleaning. I've decided to wash/detail my 05 girlie myself to save money. What the heck is Zaino? What else do I need besides the Mr. Clean thingy??

ZenGirl -

I've always done my cars myself because I've never found anyone that does a job I'm happy with...that said, Zaino is wax. I use Meguiar's NXT and am happy with it...but I've heard nothing but rave reviews about Zaino so would recommend it. You should get a California Duster and if you've seen my post on Wash Wax All - it is great stuff. Highly recommend that. I use a Swiffer for my dash (every speck of dust shows on charcoal). If your interior is leather, recommend you get a cleaner and conditioner. Meguiar's and Lexol make good stuff. Can't think of anything else right now...oh, tire care. Get some good tire cleaner/black. Also 100% cotton towels (white) for buffing/drying and microfiber towels, too. Oh and clay. There are lots of detailing sites on the net - autopia- is one and has plenty of hints. Well, that's a start at least.

GT Jade Honey!! I will have to give you a spanking!! Zaino is NOT A WAX!! Thats the beauty of Zaino. Waxes like Zymol which is the best on the market only protect for a very short time. Zaino is a Polymer which adheres to the paint and provides 4-6 months of protection. Wax is OLD TECHNOLOGY just like the old nose bras VS Paint Protection.

I thought you were the one who liked getting spanked! Anyway, semantics. I know it's a polymer...technically. But it's applied just like you apply wax. The goal is the same - water beads. It just lasts longer. Sheesh! You want me to yell at you, don't you? Yeah, and all this from the man who is "too lazy" to hand wash. Now, GO TO YOUR ROOM!

FYI-Mequiar's NXT TECH WAX is also a Polymer wax. I recently used it and so far it works great. You should be able to find it at Wal-mart.

True. "Polymer"...that's what it says on the bottle! I've been quite happy with it as well.

On the labeling of the Mr. Clean it suggests to ONLY use the Mr. Clean soap becasue others may clog the dispenser. Not sure if its true or they are just trying to sell more soap?

Zengirl35~

I have been using the Zaino product line for a few months now and find it one of the best. They have a full line of car care products to choose from. I have used the Maguier line and it is good as well, I just prefer the Zaino. Although, for the price... Zaino is rather expensive... The Maguier stuff looks pretty good for the money. Just go to the Zaino site and check it out. No place to buy it local, only online now.

Of course, if the Zaino protection really lasts that much longer, the end cost might end up being a wash ... no pun intended

Mr. Clean

The way the Mr. Clean car wash system works is that the final rinse goes through a de-ionizer, and the water that comes out is free of any minerals. The minerals present in all water (except distilled) are what leaves water spots- so if you rinse off the regular tap water with a final rinse of de-ionized water, presto- no spots. Good concept, and it works well.

I AM a little concerned about the life of the final filters- here in Ohio, we have a LOT of minerals in the water, and my first (purchased) filter seems to be brown already- after two washes.

The original filter packed with the unit is SUPPOSED to be a short-life one- and it lasted 2-1/2 washes before it was obvious that tap water was all I was getting. I'll wait and see how many washes I get with the second one, and if not enough- it's back to the towels. And- the moneyback guarantee will be called in to play.

It also seems to use a lot of soap, and the soap does not "suds" like I like it too, but it does seem to clean.

The thing is, you are only supposed to use a SMALL amount of soap.

You quickly spray it on the area you are washing, you spray it on the wash mit and go at it.

One soap fill in the gun last me 3 washes of my SUV.

Anyone having issues with this product are not reading the directions.

#1 reason for problems is when people instill their own rules on the product, then run to the boards and bitch how it didn't work.

Let me begin by saying that I am very picky about car wash / wax products. What is unacceptable to me might be just fine for other folks.

I think Mr. Clean is a disaster. The system uses a two part solution. the soap contains a wax that is part one of the anti spot feature. I use a lambs wool wash mit. The wax is absorbed by the mit and then dirt sticks to the wax. You will notice that the mit gets very dirty. The problem is that you really do not want to rub dirt back into the finish of the car. When you try to rinse the wax out of the mit it is very difficult to do.

The spray gun is also a nightmare. The output is very weak. Bugs that should rinse away are not touched by the force of the water coming out of this thing. Speaking for the one I got, it also leaks. Any water that is not passing through the filter is going to leave spots. Since the rinse output is virtually non existent, you have to hold the sprayer over the vehicle. This results in contamination of the de-ionized water.

From a product development stand point I wonder if they ever actually used on to wash a car. The good news is that there wasn't any thing left on the paint that Zymol wouldn't fix.
