The pulsing signal you are getting with the test light is normal, the way it is supposed to be, that is what the IVR intrument voltage regulator does
as someone else said, Ground the signal at the sending unit, it the guae goes to full then it is your sender, if the guage does not move then it is either the wiring from the sender to the guage or possibly the guage itself. NOTE it could be a fault right in the circuit at the back of the instrument cluster... ideally if you connect at variable resistor to the wire at the sender, you can check the entire sweep of the guage more acurately I don't recall the exact specs, but I THINK low resistance about 14 ohms should read full and high( about 75 ohms ) should read empty

Maybe it's just like mine, good readings only above 2000 rpms, so must be the ground or the power source bad/loose. Now can I have my picture?????????

It was the sending unit!

One call and $125 later for a FoMoCo original the problem was solved.

As soon as the Torque Thrust arrive the old girl will be back on the road!

Here is one running on radials (which suck) at VIR. You can really see the "roll over" effect of the soft sidewalls.

Historic, this thread had been dormant for so long I clicked on the first page without realizing I had seen it before. I didn't notice it before, but aren't there two GM products sitting in your carport? I would have thought you were a dyed in the wool Ford man. With that being said, however, I guess GM is better than the damn Toyota I'm driving as my DD right now. I got a deal on it from my dad that I couldn't pass up.

I understand your brother is building a new FIA '65 ('66?) Mustang race car. I was in the pits at Daytona last fall when he won his third (or was it fourth?) Rolex Endurance Championship.

Here's a pick as the car is just entering a right turn. Note the negative camber required to make it turn. The left tire is beginning to get the full patch on the payemnt. This was taken at the SVRA support race to the 12 Hours of Sebring. It's fun racing in front of 150,000 people (and 100 may be sober).
