MSD blaster2 coil

is it worth changing the current coil (off a 67 gto (stock)) out for an MSD blaster 2 coil that i have laying around the house? its never been used.

i have one, it's pretty good. I don't really notice anything different compared to stock, but it was so long ago when i put it in, i don't really remember.
it's meant to generate 45,000 or 50,000 volts, alot more than a stock coil.

do you know of that coil needs 12v or can it be used with the resistor wire? just curious as i, just today, re-did the wiring to the ignition and am running 12volts to the coil, but only ran it for a few seconds so didn't notice any difference.

you should run a ballast resistor (resistor wire) if running stock (points)

well i have the cranecams xr-i which is similar to the pertronix ignitor electronic setup...so i'm guessing the 12volts is fine with that application?

I originally wired my Blaster 2 coil with the ballast resistor AND with my Pertonix as an oversight. I ran it like this for a couple of months (weekend only driving) and it took me a while to figure out why it was running like crap and wouldn't idle. I finally determined the resistor was knocking the spark energy down. I removed it and it ran like a champ. Leave it off unless you have points, in which case, get rid of them too

I had a Blaster 2 and distributor installed at the same time and I noticed a big difference. The car starts and idles much better than before. Also, when I step on the gas she moves much faster. I upgraded the dist., coil, spark plugs and wires all at the same time.

man i need a new dizzy. is there any good MSD ones that do not require some kinda msd box? i don't really need a box for my application.

i hope i can see an improvement from running the coil at 12 volts now...i haven't gotten a chance to drive it yet.

I didn't run the MDS box with my setup. I got a discount from the guys at Kragen but it was still pretty expensive.

Ok now i'm confused. I did the duraspark conversion on my car and have the wire from my duraspark box running to the coil, but also have the pink resistor wire from the stock mustang harness on the other post. Is this all wrong?
