MSD=My Spark Disappeared

May Sometimes Drive.

There was a guy on here who recently posted about buying his first Fox. In describing the "pro's" of the car, he listed MSD ignition. I thought about making a snarky comment, but didn't want to kill his new car buzz.

What happened? Ive used several MSD parts and never had any problems.

Oh man you f'ed now :D. It's like the old saying " I've never had an accident" then BAM.

MSD is so hit and miss it seems or should I say most of the posting or talk would be more about the negative vs the positive like most things. one thing for sure the stock stuff is very good and unless you got the combo worthy of a change you are better to leave it alone.

Been running MSD products for over 30 years, not one failure. Maybe i am lucky. Well there was that one time the front of the crank broke off at 8,000 rpm and the dampner bounced up and smashed the MSD box and killed the engine, but I dont think that was MSD's fault.

The usual classic story...my car ran perfect a month ago, then I did a bunch of work on the car (non ignition work lol) shocks/ battery relocation/ power steering bracket/ new power window motor/ tail lights/ cluster lense/ cleaning...went to start my car one day and no go. The motor turned over, but there was no spark at the coil. So after a lot of hunting, I decided to remove the MSD 6AL box and it fired right up. My last MSD box went out after I went over rail road tracks at 5mph. I always mount them well FTR.

I changed my freaking oil and my 6AL took a chit. Ive been done with their junk for a while too...
I like my new Dist. but at least in terms of the 6 series, im throwing in the towel. Mostly because they told me theyd fix it for $88...You built it, it broke. I sure as hell didnt break it so why would I pay you to f it up again...

I believe msd changed where their products were made sometime in the last few years.

Now unfortunately, they make junk.
I don't hear too much about the 6 series boxes failing, but the distributers, coils and tfi's are worthless.

Had a coil in my car... Died on the interstate. Walked 3 miles to the O-reily's, bought a 17.99 stock replacement store brand coil. Fired right up and has never ran better.

Will never own another MSD product again.

Mallory, yes... In a heartbeat.
