I have an 88 5.0 five speed with shirty headers and a flow master h pipe exhaust with cats. I do not like the flow master muffler sound and want some suggestions for new mufflers to get

Yo mayne.

Be prepared for 500 different opinions. I personally have an affinity for Magnaflow.

If you don't like the chambered muffler sound, you should look for a straight-through glass packed muffler. MagnaFlow is a good suggestion. I happen to have a pair of them on my car now, but I'm still a sucker for a set of flowmasters on a fox.

It's not bad but I prefer a raspy bit instead of the throaty deep flow master sound

Your O2 sensors will be fine. They're upstream of the cats anyway.

Instead of destroying the cats (that you may want to put back on), buy an offroad x or h pipe. Do it before you mess with the mufflers, losing the cats changes the sound drastically.

I went from cat-less bbk to having "high flow" cats welded in(state inspection, car came w of road bbk x) and it was noticeably quieter. However, it was nice not fumigating my date w exhaust fumes.

I still think flows are the best sounding muffler for our car. My current setup is bbk shorties off road h and 40 series. It is load as hell but I love it. I also ran the same setup with a dynomax catted h pipe which was a little quieter and helped with the drone. I really liked that h pipe and would reccomend that with the magnaflow mufflers as well

Your setup is almost identical to mine but I have flowmaster 40 series. Haven't heard it yet since my motor is on a stand right now but I'm excited and hope it's loud, deep and throaty.

Just going to an x-pipe from an h-pipe would make an exhaust sound more raspy, add on top of that a glass pack type muffler and you will only get more raspy. X pipes allegedly flow better at higher rpms too
