Also, I cannot find any O2's behind the two cats. But it's hard to tell without putting it on a lift to see them. The cats are directly attached to the two manifolds. Cannot see any wires or anything that would indicate there are O2s there. I don't know if all that three inch exhaust plumbing would cause a problem or not? Lots of guys run no cats here, and have the rear O2s deleted and turned off in the tune. So I suppose it's possible.

The factory manifolds are what I consider some of the best looking manifolds I've ever seen on a vehicle. They are damn near 3-into-1 shorty headers. Much better looking than the ones on even my Lightning, which Ford advertised as cast shorty headers.

Yes, I feel it is more than 210 hp. Acceleration is pretty awesome for a V-6, IMHO.

Friday, was out thrashing my favorite curvy road. Came upon the ass end of a 370Z. He proceeded to try and lose me. He couldn't. There's not really any passing opportunities on this twisty stretch of 15 miles. But I hugged his ass the whole way around. He couldn't shake me. I have no idea how 370Z's are power wise. I know they are DOHC 4 valve V-6. He's got me beat. But he couldn't shake me on a curvy road. He was trying pretty hard. I enjoyed the heck out of that ride.

I've inadvertently spun the tires more than once, with an automatic trans. And 255/35-20 Nitto 555's on the back rims. I don't know if that's normal or not? Wasn't even trying, just stuck my foot in it and Shreek!

BTW, just because it's an automatic doesn't mean you have to let it shift itself. I am really good at manually shifting autos. Been doing it all my life. Only had a handful of manuals, one being a 70 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 with a Muncie M22 and 4.11 gears. That thing was a pure hoot. But yeah, playing with the 370Z, I was shifting the thing for all it's worth keeping the power up. It was a blast.

OD was turned off the entire time. Matter-of-fact, my M.O. is to turn the OD off as soon as the vehicle is running, and not turn it on unless speed warrants it's use. don't like lugging vehicles.

Well, Sounds even more like you may be running a Tune, maybe a Diablosports or SCT X4, X4 FlashTuner....take a peek at your EEC, if it has a Chipset in the rear (“J3 Port”Taped in place, it’s chipped-not flashed). Or, maybe the last owner got the handheld flash tuner but never used it. Pointless to keep it...
Once you use a Flashtuner to tune a Car/Truck, the Tuner & Vehicle (rather Vehicle’s VIN & EEC) are “Married”.
Only way to use the Tuner on anything else is to revert the car back to Stock, “Divorce”..
Or, it cannot be reused on another Vehicle.
As you can also change shifting parameters to suit you, it also sounds like it’s hitting the gears much more solid than OE. Tire size (Speedo correction), speed limiter, rev limiter, and fuel, timing, and a Canned or custom tune to take advantage of Mod’s & Octane. It won’t really help anything if the motor’s modded and the EEC’s not aware. And. It’ll throw CEL’s. Injectors Stock? Color??
I’d rented an 09’ 4.0/AT Mustang in TN while at Oakridge Nat’l Labs for 3 weeks, and it was in need of some more Ponies, but ran much better at 40-50MPH+, remember thinking it would be nice with 3.73’s, even 4.10’s, who’s going to run a V-6 Mustang to 150MPH?
1) Nobody with a stock motor.
2) Not anyone who has not disabled the 110mph governor.
Have you gotten it past 110MPH? More evidence it’s not stock if so..
May not have the Torque to make it past 130 with stock gears.
So, why not use that power down lower? With a 1:1 ratio in a 3 speed AT or 4 speed MT’s top gear (or 4th if a 5 speed). OD’s ratio’s right at 0.68-0.72 which most every Man./Auto Trans has in common. You rev about 2,000R’s @ 70 in OD? With 3.73’s, you’d be at 2,300, 4.10’s, at 2500R’s at 70 MPH.
140MPH you’d be at around 4,600 with 3.73’s, 5,000RPM’s with 4.10’s. Check where 70mph is on your Tach is, if you have a 27” tall rear Tire, and rev 2,000R’s, that will show gears are stock. Or just list your rear tires #’s, or height with a tape measure to the ground.
If you went to 3.73’s, power gains down low would be huge for you, 4.10’s, even more. 3.73’s are most common, for all the parts, it’s around 500$.
1) Ford Racing Ring & Pinion, 8.8”, 3.73/4.10
2) Ford Racing 8.8”Gear change Kit.(Gaskets, Angular contact Bearings, Shims, Crush ring).
3) Royal Purple Synthetic Differential Oil.
4) Axle Seals(2).
5) Friction Modifier.
5) Schnazzy Aluminum Diff. Cover, 0-Ringed.
Then around 350$ to install, rear in Car, unless done by yourself. Best for a Shop, even if only because they have every Tool. Needs to be dead on, or you’ll be doing it again.
That is, hands down, the most cost effective power gain available, it never needs anything else.
Tune these Cars. 370Z’s are light, using aluminum for their unitized frame, and Carbon Fiber. They’re around 325HP, 350Ft/Lbs. Lots of performance parts are available. Depends on the year, model.
Not anywhere as strong as the 80’s-90’s 280Z, 300ZX, 350Z many of which were available in both Single andTwin Turbo’s
350’s went to 370’s in 2008 or 2009.
High 13’s in the 1/4 mile > 100 MPH
0-60 MPH, around 5 Sec’s (Few Models)

4.6- 13 Second 1/4 mile, 0-60 in 4.8 Seconds.
4.0- 15 Second 1/4 mile, 0-60 in 6.5 Seconds.
So, if you were hanging with that 370Z, and he was trying, It doesn’t seem that your Mustang would be stock.
I think you should track him down with the Lightning, walk all over him, then you’ll see what the Z’s really got as he continues to lose despite his best efforts.

What do you think about the exhaust? All that three inch plumbing? Doesn't seem stock to me. But I know nothing about these cars.

From what i gather from door sticker info, my car has 3.73 in the rear axle. So does my Lightning and Ranger.

As soon as the rain stops, I'll get it out and see what the rpm/speed ratio is. I've not had it over 100 mph, but it got there easy enough.

Schnazzy diff. cover? Here's my Lightning now. Mag-Hytec. Qa1 shocks, BroncoBeater panhard bar.

I googled the 07 V-6 4.0 stock exhaust. Mine looks nothing like it, and yeah, it appeared to have at least three cats to my two. The Y is totally different and much further back on the vehicle.

3.73’s? Thought Stock gears were 3.31’s, with an option for 3.55’s....I could be wrong, I’m certainly not quite as privy with the S197 V-6 options & the 4.6’s, 5.4’s & their available options.
If you’re sure, you’re sure, if doubtful, I’d Jack it up, spin the Tire/driveshaft to be 100%., or tach it at 70mph in OD...
Always open to learn something new!
Both my S197’s have 3.31’s...
Nitto 555 G2’s work much better when they’re really warmed up.
Manifold to Cat’s, Y into a 3” pipe, branching further down to two mufflers...doesn’t sound stock, or look stock online..is it Stainless?
My 08’ GT runs G2’s, 285’s out back & 255’s up front, lights them up 1st through 2nd @ 6,750 limiter followed by a loud 3rd gear bark. It gets 3.73’s this summer.
My Shelby’s running 315’s out back & enjoys roasting Goodyear Supercar’s nonstop 1st,2nd,3rd,4th held at 7k @ 25lbs of boost if there’s room to do it, accelerating while spinning, well over 80-90 mph.
I do my “fast ride to nowhere” every week in the Summer, and out in really..nowhere
Fun, becomes tricky at those speeds when close to grabbing traction. It gets 4.10’s this Summer.
It’s KB FI upgrade & LT headers, Exhaust, Cams, Injectors, TB, CAI, lots of Suspension & Brakework makes it run stronger, safer, and launches great with slicks.
18,700miles on it, kept all stock parts, stiffening all bolt on..
Picked up another 08’ GT500, totaled, unibody now straight, blocks at our shop.. building it when I can.

BTW, the 555’s are much better when hot & sticky, at least driving it for a bit. I dip my pressure to 45lbs in the rear when looking for rear bite..

I'll have to check, may not be 3.73s. I know both my Ranger and Lightning have 3.73s. Five speed automatic, I am running in third gear through 25 mph zones at 2000 rpm. It goes through first through fourth fairly quickly, which is why I like to shift it manually. If I have OD off, at 45 in fourth running 3000 rpm. It has a 6000 rpm redline, and letting it shift itself, it gets there really quick.

I'll get it out on the highway at 70 and see what it does. haven't really paid attention when I've done it before.

You drop your pressure to 45 for traction? Most tires, 45 is the maximum. I run the Nitto NT555Rs on the back of the Lightning at 25 for traction. 35 for average use.

Hi, Yes & No. Nitto555 G2’s are meant to be run at 50lbs, have dropped Rears even 5lbs is enough to help traction, but not affect drivability if I jump into twisties in the 100MPH range.
Traction is independent of surface area. It’s tire Composition, pressure, suspension squat, weight transfer that helps launches.
Remember the guys in the 80’s with that awful “Airshock mania”? Cars were 8” too high, widest tires, and they just burned rubber & went nowhere, lmao!!
Still too many Cars with tires too wide, they float over the road & just...spin!
The GT’s are 285/30Zr20 in the rear, aspect ratio 30. Sidewalls are strong. Fronts are 19”.Yes. My bad, have run them at 35lbs for straight line 0-60’s, GT500...easier to grab my slicks.
Can’t go much below 42-45 with the Shelby, in the past spun the Rim 2X with the Nitto’s it ran (285’s, then-stock for a GT500) have the TPMS sensor & inner liner to contend with. If I’m going out with stoplight Shenanigans in mind & need traction, Slicks are a 10 minute hoopla.
Slicks I’ll drop to 18lbs, Rims have beadlock ‘s on the Hoosiers mounted on 15” Welds.
Ok, I’m thoroughly confused with your gear ratio’s. More..lost, actually..
I even dropped doing the math & used a plug in number program, and all was correct.. See if anything’s off in my interpretations...
Driving it manually, OD disabled, Torque Converter locked up in 3rd(2,000’r’s@25) & 4th(3,000R’s@45) with a 26” diameter rear tire....
255’s(25.4mm=1”, 255/25.4=10..A 10” Tire Width), a 30% aspect ratio on a 20” Rim (30x20=600, (6.0”) 20”Rim + 6”=26”), Ergo, a 10” Wide, 26” diameter Tire....I’m better at Diff.Calculus vs H.S. Math. lol!
SR55S 5 Spd Auto (4spd + OD) ratio’s..
1st, 3.250
2nd, 2.440
3rd, 1.550
4th 1.000 (As most every Auto/Manual is).
5th 0.750
Your info on RPM’s/MPH...
255/30/20 555’s in the rear, 26” Diameter, and in 4th (1:1 Ratio) it sits at 3000RPM’s at 45? That suggests gears are around 5.13’s.
In 3rd (1.55 Ratio) shifting manually you’re at 25mph with the RPM’s @ 2,000?
That lines up with 4.10’s...(?)

But, if you take the numbers & say you’re running 3,000RPM’s in 3rd @ 45MPH, that’s right for 3.31’s.
If you were running 2,000RPM’s in 4th @ 45, that lines up with 3.31’s.
Did you maybe mix them up?
With 45MPH @3,000R’s in 4th, that’s 3.31’s.
With 70MPH @ 3400R’s in 4th, that’s 3.73’s.
Did you get a 70, 80MPH reading in 4th, or OD yet? 2500R’s@70mph in OD in the Mustang is 3.73 territory.
It should be identical in your Lightning or Ranger or Mustang in the 1:1 Gear, 4th in your 5Speed Auto, a 4Speed Auto..3rd. If you’re running the same gear & rear Tire diameter.

I'll have to wait for Mother Nature to stop raining on the party here. But this weekend, I'll get it out on the highway and see what the numbers are. Yeah, I may have mixed some of those numbers up.

Anyhow, the Lightning has near 29 inch tires. Nitto NT555R 305/45-18. I believe with those it is running around 2100 rpms at 70 in OD.
The Ranger has 255/60-15 Cooper Cobra Gt in the back. Also doesn't have a tach. Been wanting to do one of those old school hood tachs. Just don't know what to wire it to for pickup, the Crank Position Sensor?

As I said, in all three I turn the OD off as soon as the vehicle is running, and tend to shift them manually. The Lightning, I only let it shift itself when my foot is stomping on it. And with the Lightning, it's best to keep OD off whenever you're hammering on it. It's a known invitation to The Ventilated Block club if it shifts into OD at full boost. Or, if you're on the highway and want to pass someone, turn the OD off before mashing it. The huge double downshift from OD into 2nd on at full boost will get you into the Motor Sploder Club.

Yeah, Lightning is dead on @ 70mph running a 28.8” Tire diameter at 2,072RPM’s in OD running a 3.73 Diff. ratio.
Meant to say it previously, you mentioned the Pontiac, I’d had a 64’ & restored it in 88’, 389/4bbl, dropped a 63’ SD420 out of a Catalina. All I have left is one pic.
Wish I’d taken more... had 2-69’s, a 68’ later, RA 400’s. Not high revvers, but gobs of torque!
I love the whine those straight cut M-22 gears make when running through each gear, almost like a Roots 6-71/8-71 Blower, or a “noisy”type gear Cam drive.
My 532CID Z-28 Has an M-22 Rockcrusher, as does my 67’ Kellison Astra X-300GT running a 4 bolt L-79 327/350. (Pic’s). Rare one there, only seen a few. Uncle started the ground up build in 68’, Retired & after all that, let it sit in an area with no ground but dirt.
So, I’m Restoring an unfinished Kitcar, lol.
Cross between a Vette’, AC Cobra, and a 280Z, see what you think.
Not to rub it in, weather here in western Mass has been >70, hazy hot & humid. But...our winters are (?)lol!

Yeah, I loved the gear whine in that Formula 400. I know what you mean about sounding like a blower. The Magnum Powers blower in my Lightning, along with a cog drive, whines like the dickens. I've had more than one uninformed motorist ask if it has a jet engine under the hood. LMAO! It's loud. Real loud! Louder than the exhaust. Some people roll their windows up when I roll up next to them. LOL!!

I'm on The Ranger Station, been for years.

I see on the tach. Pin 48 in the ECM. I put a new ECM in it in 2017. Seems easy enough. Now to start looking at what old-fangled hood tachs are out there that will work. Thanks.

I've been more into bikes most of my life, than hot rod four wheelers. Most of them have the power to scare you senseless right out the door. I've got two at present, 2006 Suzuki M1800R and 2008 Suzuki B-King. The M1800R in it's current condition, intake, exhaust and flashed ECM makes 145 rear wheel hp. The B-King in it's current condition makes 185 rear wheel hp. It's frightening to ride. Likes to keep the front wheel in the air. Or the back if you brake too hard.

My Uncle had a V-12 Jaguar when I was a kid. Later when I grew up, saw one for sale. Looked it over, pretty nice. Talked to my Dad about it. He was like "You may not remember your Uncle's Jaguar, but he spent his life under the hood of that thing. Don't do it!" Probably shouldn't have listened to him.

Also passed on a chance to own an orange 70 Plymouth Superbird. It was a 383 four barrel auto, not the much sought after hemi four speed. Kind of like the lowest on the totem pole as Birds go. But still dumb me decided to get a new Trans Am instead. Damn it all! I've always loved the Winged Wonders, since I was a little kid. WTF was I thinking?

As to why I ended up with a V6 Mustang? Well, I have never intended to own a Stang period. They're all over the place here where I live. Dime a dozen. See them at work sometimes, exiting the premises, lined up four or five in a row. But, I saw this one while out driving one day and got bitten by it's looks. The color, dark blue and flat black, the hood scoop and rear spoiler. Just caught my eye. V-6 or not. And having bought it, I've decided it has to be Stang that stands out from all the others, V-6 or not. I'm more into cornering and handling than all out top speed or acceleration. I spend more time out at the local lake hauling ass around the twisty road that encircles it, than anywhere else. That road is 15 miles long with one stop and not heavily patrolled. I think the V-6 Stang has much closer to a 50/50 weight bias than any car I've owned before. This thing gets around that road so dang nice. I love it!

Two pics, when purchased and now. It's come a long way. And still going, not done yet. I get more thumbs up and nice car than I do in my Lightning. To most people, the Lightning is just a truck. Some owners even abuse them in that form. Not me, mine is carpeted in the bed and lives in a garage. LMAO!

The Pirate with the two missing teeth in the windshield, is just there until I get the vehicle into a tint shop and have the windshield tint repaired. It had a school parking sticker there, and when the original owner peeled it off, the tint was damaged. This sticker seemed the perfect "temporary repair".

Yes, know the feeling!
Little story on the GT. Bought the Vapor Silver GT as a present to my wife, as she went & bought a brand new one in 08’ for near 40K, was going through an ugly divorce in 09’ & ended up losing it with 12K on it.
First new car she ever owned, paid with her own $$, So I’d tracked THE car down, and bought it, put it on the road, detailed it. Parked it in the driveway with the keys/Title in her name, she cried for 2 days & gave the Pony a big hug!lol.
Love the S-197’s, they’re balanced well & weigh around 3500lbs (+/-), EXCEPT for the GT500, which weighs in at 3,900Lbs, Vert’s even heavier. So, correcting that required a lot of the typical tricks, and a few new ones.
GT500 Weighed in at 3,450 Lbs @ the 1320 last Summer.Not nose heavy any longer.
The Lightning’s Sweet. Cogged pulley, old school Roots 8-71, 9lbs & it’s fine, though not as efficient at a KB, physically & visually kicks arse! I’d just dropped one on a younger gentleman’s 302(He blew it up running it on gear oil- yes...gear oil!).
Peek at my media...Family owns Automotive based Machine shop(s).(2), i was lucky & taught early on. Grandfather’s a WW2 Vet (USMC) & still running the show, if I wasn’t paying attention at 11-12+ he’d punch me in the Adam’s apple with 2 closed fingers, lol. Frick did that hurt, but Worked!
I’d boiled it, Sonic tested it, threaded freeze plug holes, squared it up, Decked it, Align Honed it, clearanced & Bored it +0.030, Honed bores w/torque plates & drilled & plunge milled the deck & heads for Dowel pins for alignment after mock assembly. (hate OE split pins, heads can shift). Started building another about 2 weeks behind, need an 82’-93’ GT/LX So, rebuilt it as a studded, Girdled, Forged, Steel, 3/8” SIR’s Internally balanced 331 Stroker. Solid roller, hate Hyd Roller’s, puke out@ 6,500-7K, Broke it in with a Holley TBI
Went with a Weiand 8-71 Cog drive on that after rebuilding & breaking rings in.
Your Lightning has some slick radial Cog pulleys, specifically the main drive, Belt looks like it needs to be setup w/deeper Cog ribs.
What’s the U/D, O/D %, how much boost?
42lb injectors..you running a mono blade TB butterfly? Capable of so much more... Then again, if you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters.Sweet! How’s it hook up?

The lower is an eight inch, the upper three inch. So nine pounds boost. The belt is a Gates Power Grip. Cogs are custom made and no longer available. Thankfully I have a second set with a nine inch lower if I ever want to make 13 pounds boost.

Yes, Accufab single blade throttle body. Fuel system is totally stock so far. If I ever put that nine inch lower on, I have to go with stronger pumps and new injectors. For where it's at now, no need.

The idler pulleys were also custom made and no longer available. The pulley bracket is also Magnum Powers and features three pulleys rather than the stock two.

Two things to note today.

First. Yes, at 70 on the highway, it's running around 2100. So must be those 3.31 gears. 50 in 4th around 2100, 40 in 4th around 1750.

Second. Since the day that two gallons of 93 caused Random Misfire codes within 40 miles on a once clean computer scan, I've put in two gallons of 87, four gallons of 89 and eight gallons of 91. After the 87 and 89, I had P0300pd (pending code) showing. Today, after putting a second four gallons of 91 in it, the computer is clean, no codes or pending codes.

Totally unexplainable how two gallons of 93 added to a near full tank of 91 could cause such mayhem.

Wow! Sneaky, you edit your posts after I’d read them & I feel like a Slug when I’d not commented on them, lmao!!
The Fuel/Octane thing I’m guessing, if Sensor related.
1) A bad knock sensor..
2) A bad 02 Sensor.
3) Camshaft position sensor.
By “bad”, I mean..for whatever reason, they’re hi the end of their service life.
-Or,
4)Excess Carbon deposits from an overactive PCV System (or other route).
5) Valvetrain, Cam lobe wiped making it difficult to pull in/remove Gases
6) partially clogged injector.
7) EEC programming not stock, or corrupt, making it more vulnerable.
Did you pull the wires & relocate them one spot on the cap, retime to see if it migrated to the new cylinder?
Anything that’s not OE Ignition parts are prime subjects, rule them out as good or bad.
