i have a 97 explorer upper and a 96 lower intake, along with the stock 65mm t-body.My question is.....Do i have to modify the t-body to work with the intake? do all the throttle linkage and lines line up in the same spot as my stock 5.0 intake?is the upper just a simple bolt on and hook up?

the intake itself is a direct bolt on but the bracket on the throttle body is different and needs to be modified. here's an install write up:

and here's a thread about how to modify the throttle body:

eek! does anybody have a link as to what needs to be done?I have a highly skilled mustang mechanic that can do the job but if i can do it myself i can save a buck and learn something.

any idea on where to get pictures of the explorer linkage setup so i could compare the2 and try to make it work?

thankyou guys!.......nice writeups....ok e few more questions?I have an AC delete and no cats/smog pump.Should i get the egr delete gasket? also is the hole in the middle of the runners underneith the egr passage? and i have a few pix here.one is a weird elbow that came with the explorer intake and t-body i dont need it do i? When i took it off there were 2 normal bolts and 2 long studs....do the studs unscrew?,because the t body wont be able to bolt up with only 2 bolts......are they usually studs or did someone put the studs in and i must have a machine shop fix it?? I hope these are good questions and not lame?

grab the studs with a nice set of pliers and twist them out, PB Blaster can help losen them up. Then get new bolts from the hardware store (stainless steel allen heads FTW)

You need to take the Elbow off the intake. Then you need to take two studs out of your stock upper intake and put them in the two empty threaded holes on the explorer upper intake. You need a total of 4 studs in the explorer upper just like the stocker is right now.

You need to keep your EGR setup working. Just because you arent running cats or smog pump does not mean you dont need the EGR. THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE SYSTEMS!! The egr and thermactor/air pump systems are not the same.

If the explorer intake has the provisions for internal EGR (Hole and passage way up through the middle of the intakes) then you should use them. Keep your EGR in tact as best you can. Without a custom tune, you are going to create more harm than good trying to get rid of it! Good luck man
