Took the car(73 stang) in for front wheel aligmnent today and instead of solving one problem another one appeared. Firstly the 'specialist' couldn't set positive caster. As he was shortening the strut bar(pulling the wheel towards the front of the car), the computer was indicating that the caster was getting more negative! After a group discussion with other mechanics , the 'specialist' said that the left lower control arm i have fitted is identical to the right lower control arm. He said each side should have a unique lower control arm . Is he correct?! I have recently fitted laurel mountain mustang front suspension kit.

no he is not correct. if he was truly adjusting the caster correctly, in the right direction, the car will gain positive caster. he was probably adjusting the strut rod backwards. you can install the lower control arm bushings from the opposite side on the LCA but it won't make that much of a difference. in any case the LCA should be about in the middle of the hanger on both sides. in order to adjust for positive caster with the strut rod you effectively lengthen the distance between the adjuster nuts, in other words the rearward adjusting nut should be going farther backwards toward the end of the threads, he was probably going the other way.
