I don't know if anyone else had a tough time deciding on the color of their Mustang, but I am (which I think is the case for most). When I think of Mustang, I think of blue and white. I quickly dismissed white exterior with blue stripes, doesn't quite suit my taste. I would like to go with a blue exterior with white stripes (painted on of course), however I don't really like the two shades of blue Ford offers - Vista Blue and Windveil Blue. The Windveil Blue is a little too girly for me, and the Vista Blue isn't anything special - it reminds me of all the other blues I see on rice burners rolling around campus. I've personally seen both, however the Vista Blue was on a V6 rental car which was quite dirty - so perhaps I was getting a wrong feel of the color and if this was the case, please speak up for Vista Blue.

What I'm looking for is that deeper blue, or up a shade to a real grabber blue. I'd even go with that deep metallic blue.

Questions:
1.) I'm assuming I'm going to have to get a custom paint job. How do I go about purchasing my Mustang from the dealership when I want a custom paint job and not their factory standard color?
2.) Any suggestions on the color tone I've been speaking of - brand of paint, or the paint color itself?

The paint job of a car is extremely important, at least to me. I want to make sure it's a quality paint, done in a quality fashion. I have provided a picture of the type of blue I'm speaking of - it's off the cervini's website.

The vista blue did not impress me when I saw it the first couple of times, then I saw one with the white stripes painted and cleared in the sun. The sucker looked pretty damn good. My 18 year old son is going to do his the same way as soon as he gets it. I've got black with silver stripes painted and cleared. Looks great, but it's a chore taking care of it. I leave it covered in the garage and only drive it on the weekends so it ain't too hard to keep up. If you do decide to re paint it I would suggest PPG basecoat clearcoat system or Dupont.

By the way, I think that pic you posted is vista blue. It just looks better with the stripes if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the reply anthony,

I'm going to assume that after you treat the exterior with quality products (was going to buy one of the zaino kits after researching the topic on stangnet forums) that you can improve the appearance of the exterior with regular application?

Since your son is going the same route as what I intend to, is he getting his stripes painted and cleared by the dealership, or other paint shop?

I'm a guy and I love the windveil blue. It reminds me of silver blue that was availabe for the early Mustangs.
I get compliments almost every day on the car and especially the color.
I love it.

i wanted black, almost got vista blue, ended up with silver. i like, it looks classy and clean. just dont like the way stripes look on silver. if i was going to get a custom paint job, itd be dark highland green, no spoiler and a billet grill with deleted fog lights

The use of quality products and microfiber towels has definitely made my clearcoat look better than new after almost 2 years now. My boy is going to get a buddy of mine to do the work. He did mine and I'm very satisfied. If you decide to do the full stripes I suggest just that, full stripes that don't stop at the bumpers. I also installed rocker panel stripes using 3M vinyl tape. That way we didn't have to clearcoat the side of the car too. Not only that, the vinyl can be replaced easily and cheap if it gets damaged from road debris. Vinyl stripes on the top of the car just doesn't cut it for me.
