We were going out for dinner around 7:00, running down the freeway doing about 70..........hit a medium sized bump in my lane and the car just frikking quits No warning.....nothing, speedo and tach go to zero and all the warning lights come on.........pulled her onto the side of the road. Pop hood, light on the battery is green, connections are good, all the accessories work and when you go to crank her she wont turn over, but its not a slow crank, its cranking kind of fast. Now she is spending the nite with the local Firestone and hopefully Ill get her back tommorow evening.

the irony of this is that i work at a firestone also and they actually might try and sell you a fuel pump if they dont know about that switch

Funny thing about that switch, I had my subwoofer slam hard into the sensor box in the trunk and activate the switch. However, it didn't actually cut off the fuel until I stopped moving. I thought that was a very convenient feature as I would have probably been straight into a tree or off in some ditch if my power suddenly cut off.

Then again though thats exactly what sounds like happened to you. I hope the tow truck dude was honest

This sounds like a electrical fault, the gauges dropping out when the car died is a sure indicator of that. When you hit the bump some connection shook loose or shorted to ground. Without being there it's almost impossible for me to know what circuit exactly

Yeah thats what I thought too but then I remembered my gauges did the exact same thing whenever the "cut off" went into effect. I don't think it worked right to be honest.

BTW the switch isn't near the fuel pump, it should be a little button near the left taillight assembly in the trunk.

HMM, the speedo should not shut down when the engine dies but the key is still on.. interesting.. I may have to do a little experiment some night when the highway is deserted near my work.

crankshaft position sensor.. yep that is possible

The way to check for that is run live data and see if you have a PIP signal.

profile ignition pickup... it's not a part it's used by the PCM to determine ignition firing. just ignore that

our cars show this as a CKP pid.. while you are cranking you should see something here if it's zero you have no crank signal.

ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS????????????????? what do they mean by that..

Did you have any noise before this happend or did the car just shut off.

Remember not all techs are created equal in fact most suck ass, so what ever they tell you is wrong you should do a reality check.. let us know on here before you authorize any work.

Probably like a Maxi Pad, you need to change them out every month or she'll start raggin on you like she just did.

Seriously, I have no clue...hope it's nothing major!
