Mustang guru advice needed....

I have a '66 Mustang with a '70 302 V8 engine in it. It came that way from the previous owner. I purchase a "daily driver a/c system". I read some negative feedback about where it came from. Anyway...I mount the ac compressor to the left side of the engine block/header (from the driver point of view) and now I'm stuck with a dilemma (sp) of where I need to route the belt from the compressor to....?

Currently there is a belt routed thru water pump/fan, crank shaft, & alternator. The alternator is where I would tighten the belt. Now that I have the compressor mounted...leave the existing belt as is and run another belt from the compressor to the :
1) Crankshaft, water pump/fan? or
2) Water pump/fan, alternator (alternator will require double groove pulley)? or
3) Water pump/fan only?

If I route the belt thru 1 or 3 above, I will need something to keep the belt tighten.

What would be the best mod/solution? Does anyone have a picture of how they have their's setup?

There should be another groove on the crank pulley for the ac. I assume you don't have power steering. If not, there should be an adjustment slot or bolt on the ac mounting brackets. If not, they may have sent you the wrong brackets. If I remember right, there was an actual bolt that tightened to tension the belt.

Mustangdave...there are another groove on the crank pulley and I don't think the compressor mounting bracket can be adjust. I will have to take a closer look. They did send me one that was suppose to mount to the water pump but it did not work so they send me a different that mount to the header. I upload a picture so you can see.

Tom...there is 2 hollow tube/rod that I run the long bolts thru to mount the compressor to the bracket and I don't see it on your picture.

You dont want to run the compressor off the water pump pulley only or it will slip the water pump when it kicks on. Looking at your pics, you need to run the belt from the crank pulley and around the water pump to the compressor, thats the best way if your pulleys line up. Looking at your drawing of you mount, the belt is adjusted by the one T style threaded bolt and nut.

TOM b is exactly right, you will need to put the belt on and tighten or loosen that nut in the diagram which will angle the compressor to the left or right somewhat which tighten the belt

That would be the bolt marked "t-adjustor" in the diagram. Your compressor is also adjustable frt. to back to align with the pullies via the slots in the mounting bracket. It's hard to tell from the angle of the pic, but is your alt. belt on the wrong groove? It looks out of alignment. As TomB said, the ac belt will go around crank and water pump.
