Anyone put a Mustang II front end in their car? I think I've got a 74 front end that I'm rebuilding to go into my 67 project. This is a 4cyl car that I am dropping a 302 in, so this will give me power steering, disk brakes and more room. Any hints, instructions, measurements, etc would be appreciated.

MII is not the best for pure handling. The geometry would need to be improved on. Also the structural integrity of the chassis would need to be addressed.

I've got TCI's Mustang II kit in my '70 Mach, and WOW what a difference over stock.

I am very happy I did it, and the extra room in the engine bay is so so nice. If I didn't have a shaker to worry about i'd be doing a twin turbo setup right now on her with all of this extra room! lol

Years ago, back in the late 70's early 80's, guys would put Mustang II front ends in early mustangs, but they were mostly for drag racing to get in larger engines like the 460. Now, when you talk Mustang II front conversions, you mean kits from companies like Rod and Custom, Heidt's and TCI. where they supply the front cross member, upgraded control arms and a later generation R&P. I would advise against using the front end from an original Mustang II.

I purchased a MII kit from the Hoffman group for my 65' fastback. The crossmember is a universal fit. Does anyone know of the vertical cut dimension on the crossmember?

The MII conversion is mainly useful for installing physically large engines. Unless a lot of bracing is done, you end up with structural problems. Dynacorn has a shock tower with relief, allows using MII or coilover suspension without eliminating the export brace.

Of course, the MII suspension is not a serious upgrade from the stock 64-70 suspension. It was mentioned that TCI's MII was better than stock. Well, duh. You put upgrade stuff like that on a "stock" suspension, tubular upper arms, roller shafts and perches, etc., you get the same result without hacking and welding.

Doing this conversion to get PS and PDB is not very cost effective. Stock 67 discs are superior to MII brakes. You can get them for under $600, and bolt them on between dinner and bedtime.

If you find Ford/Bendix PS offensive (I don't, I've worked on this stuff a LOT, and 99% of problems with it are dumbass repairs) there's always the Borgeson kit, and several R&P kits that are bolt-in for 64-70.

I agree to a point, the addition of tubular "stock" style parts is a big upgrade over stock, but I think they are more of a bandaid. And who would shell out the cash for a MII front end and get stock brakes? I had factory discs and they were nice, but my 4 piston Wilwoods are nicer.

Also, there is just something nice about not having shock towers, I might be a bit biased, but it was well worth the investment.
