I need to know where this is so i can check the hoses and see what needs to be fixed. Anyone else have this problem? Also could you post a picture if you could. My car is from california so i dont know if everyone has this maybe a california smog thing. any help is apre*****ed. Thanks

Its not a california thing, its just regular emissions equipment that we have in our cars, its designed to cash the gas vapors and recirculate through the whole system, this one is for the 96-98 GT/Cobra...

The orginal one in my car was similar to that but i replaced it with a new one like the one in the picture, its located to passenger left fender all the way in the back near the ac equipment

please give us the exact code number. There is a lot of different codes for the evap emissions system and the descriptions can be off in the predator.

The code you probably have is p0442 or p0456 both of these are for a small evap leak.

The picture in the post above is for a evap emissions canister purge regulator valve, your car does not have that type of evap system. That setup was used on the very early evap emissions.

Your car has the more modern setup

Item Part Number Description
1 9F980 Evaporative emission test port
2 9C915 Evaporative emission canister purge valve
3 9F945 Canister vent solenoid
4 9D653 Evaporative emission canister
5 9C047 Fuel vapor control valve tube assembly

You really need a smoke machine and a scan tool with active command capability ( Ford NGS,IDS,WDS) to diag evap emissions.

The code is P0042 It says system detected small leak in the evaporator canister. Ok so i cant test it my self, Could this leak be a hose? Or could it be the canister its self? Also how much does the canster cost?

Hi,

One thing to check is the Evap hose above the rear pumpkin or diff cover. I have a after market rear end cover and it crushed my hose causing it to leak sometime back.
I replaced the hoes with new one for ($50) which was a slightly different shap and now no problems now.

hope this helps.
