Mustang vs Cobalt SS

I raced a SCed one...
It ran 13.8 @ 100 mph which is about as fast as a well driven stock GT. Forget about a stock SS, any decently driven '99+ GT should have no problem.
stock GT runs a 13.8? that's news to me.
I barely beat one - though i had serious traction issues due to old rubber. The E36 M3 is a much better race (just don't mess with em 90mph+ lol)

Mods:
Custom weld/altered Steeda CAI
Steeda U/D pulleys

that's about all i had then i think

d98gt, any tips on getting such good times? any specific launch techniques?

My only suggestion is to work on the launch. I realize that these slugs might not be able to totally roast the tires from a stop, however a little wheel spin is all it takes to put the 60' in the 2.3+ range. It has taken me quite a few attempts to finally find what it takes to cut my 2.1* 60' which really isn't bad considering I am 150k+ miles and most runs were on worn down wal-mart tires.

My times aren't exactly "good" times, I am just fortunate to run on one of the best tracks around which usually has good prep even for test night. I have only ran a 14.700 once which was so close to a 14.6 :D. I mostly run 14.71 & .72s and can't manage to get my near stock car in the 14.6 :)

You should be in the range that I am in atleast since you have gears and I still run the stock 3.08s.

Practice makes perfect--even with an automatic:p

Well practice sounds like fun :) The problem I'm having now is roasting the tires from a stop, I'm working on my launches though and getting an h-pipe, so hopefully my first time to the track I can get a 14.7

Im a member of CobaltSS and those guys are a joke over there. A Mustang GT... and get this an LS1 are no big deal to them. LOL Thats all thats ever posted over there. "I beat a Camaro SS by like 3 car lengths from a roll" thats all they ever say. Then they get pissed when V8 guys call them out on it. LOL

Most of them over on ss.net are tools. They swear a stock ss is a 13 second car, yet most of them run high 14 second passes and the the fastest EVER proven is a 14.1x, at Houston MP no less. But, dont be surprised if you pick on one and get your lunch handed to you.

My friend has one with the stage 2 kit, exhaust and drag radials and it runs 11.17 in the 1000' (mid-low 13-second 1/4). A friend of his has an Intense stage 4 (like a roush stage 3 for us) and it runs slightly quicker, 11.12 I think. He's about to do a blower swap and should be in the 12s (1/4) easily.

All that said, they arent bad little cars. Not my (our) cup of tea obviously, but after I got to know the 2 guys in my local club, they're pretty cool. Remember, to each their own and if you run into one, give him the benefit of the doubt that hes not a total douche.

Just got the stang, plan on going this summer, but his times sound better than what I've read for a non-pi automatic, plus his mustang is almost exactly like mine, just wondering what he does.
The 3.73's are a good start as far as getting your times down. First run I'd just hammer the gas and see if you get any spinning. If you do then back it down. Try to launch around 3K RPM's. That way you are into the power band quickly. You also may want to shift yourself. Put it in first then shift to second at around 4500 RPM's. Then into drive again at 4500 and stay on the floor.

If were talking stock versus stock with equal drivers, GT takes the cake.

once the mods come its a whole other ball game. theyre no srt4 but they can still make good numbers.

go over to the srt4 sites where youre comparing more likely apples to apples, and the srt4 stock versus even mildly modded CobaltSS, the srt4 takes the win every time.

I like the cars actually. I love that chevy and dodge are putting out cheap American cars that contend with the other fast 4 bangers. I wish Ford would do the same, however, I would hate for them to bring out a horrible example like the SVT Focus. IMO the SVT Focus was a joke

As for the automatic at the track, I usually turn the O/D off and manually shift the car. I powerbrake the car just enough to get it ready so I can cut a good light (not like this matters, though this allows me to have close runs with some of the faster cars since my .05 lights help against a .35 driver ;))

From a dead stop, even my 3.08s will spin if I give it WOT from idle, which is why it helps for me to "powerbrake" the car a bit so it doesn't just get a sudden jolt that leads to spinning. The first 60' is the most important time in the 1/4 imo. I believe I have my 60' as low as possible with my current setup (2.140 on wal-mart cheap tires). Launching will be tricky for you at first, though just be patient and find what works best for you.

BTW- When I attempt my 2nd to Drive shift, the car basically shifts itself during it even if I do "shift" in the 4800 rpm area, it will go to 5500 (or where ever it shifts at while WOT :D) I believe I could fix this with a programmer though don't have one.

I raced one from a dig (the only way to race BTW) and totally killed it. I do have 4.10s though.

I think the Cobalt SS was stockish. I still respect the sporty econobox cars though. I just can't get over how bad a 4 cylinder motor sounds at any speed. I haven't found a 4cyl sound that I like (other than motorcycles) ever. I would choose my Stang if it had 130 RWHP over a 300WHP Cobalt/Neon/WRX/Evo.

Yes, I hate 4 cyls that much.:nonono:

They always seem to pull up next to you on the freeway and take off in rush hour traffic, weaving in and out, seconds from clipping someone and getting them killed, I just set back and watch the stupidity.......I have a feeling this is what they call a kill, Im sorry but im a little more grown up then that
