Mustang will be gone in less than 5 years!

look how expensive the cobra and ford gt is.. how could those two cars put mustangs out of buisness. Ford would be losing out on the 20-30k price bracket. The only way I see them dropping the mustang is if they dont sell.

look at the prices of gas, in the last 7 years it went up like x3, i remember in 1997 the gas here was like .33 cents Canadian and last summer we had premium for 1.10 ! the prices in europe already at 2 $ US for a liter. if the prices will go up like they did in the last 7 years, its going to be hard to keep up. i voted yes, but not for sure.

ehh if people are buying v8's for gas mileage, They should reconsider

ok, but would you pay 2-3 bucks for a liter of gas ? specially if you have 3.73s and 4.10s in your car ? u must be nuts if u would. people dont buy them for gas mileage, but when the cost of the gas is going to be so high you will consider getting something else to drive.

The gas mileage could've an affect sooner or later... Esp. on me... If the prices continue to go up like it did last summer I may consider to sell the stang because I can't afford it.... But in my wildest dreams I don't want to do that and various economist rumors says that gas price will go down and not climb up like last summer.... let's hope....

Anybody who thinks gas prices are high, needs to reconsider. In absolute dollars, sure -- but when you account for inflation we're doing about average.



We're not in any danger right now of muscle cars getting priced out of the market because of fuel economy.

Well said Rootus. The rate of recent price hikes has us all shocked. But you are right on, the real cost of gas still is not bad.

Also keep in mind that Ford sells tons of Mustangs that most of us would never even consider buying. They sell lots of Mustangs with V6s and automatics. While not the most thrilling cars, they bouy the brand (and provide lots of donor parts). People buying those cars are not hurt so bad by gas price hikes.

The original appeal of the mustang was a sports car without the sports car price. It could be purchased by the common man, and they could have a piece of American musclecar heritage without destroying their wallet. It has not always been the fastest, and could not always hug the road like other more expensive sports cars, but Iaccocca's vision for it (among countless others) was realized by common people, and the reflection of this was measured in an unpredicted enormous sales volume in the first year.
The mustang has changed over the years, adjusting to competition such as camaros and firebirds, as well as for economic purposes. Take, for example, the Mustang II. It was not even really a musclecar in the sense that no V8 was even offered, but it was what the people needed at the time, and served those needs well. Even when they were thinking about turning the mustang into a front wheel drive smaller car which became the Probe, it they were thinking about adaptation, and fortunately the car adapted without being completely changed into a different line. In the late 80s and early 90s, you could get a 4 cyl. That is unheard of to most of us V8 owners, but Ford did their research, and tapped this market of wanting a sports car look without the balls to back it up, to put it loosely.
So next time some idiots say something like the mustang won't be around in 10 years or whatever, think about it. You have to be a bonehead to believe something like this. You have to look at something's track record to see how it will do in the future. The cars that are dead now do not have the track record of the mustang, and even if they are brought back as some type of promotion to boost sales, the sales will probably be temporary, and the unfocused circle will repeat itself. Fact is, the mustang has not only a strong history, it is a living legacy, and I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for it to go away.

the mustang will live on. i hear murmurings that the maro will be returning soon. if it does then we can be sure that the stang will live on. btw camaro's stopped being built because they were way over priced and mustang was out selling then 2 to 1 or even more.

The last thing I read was in a magazine article during the last year of the Crapmaro. It actually said that Ford was pushing 10 Mustangs off the lot for every single F-body. They will come back, and all the Cheby guys will rejoice, and run out and buy one, but it won't last if the price doesn't come down. I think they may be hurting the GTO by not releasing all the info on when/if the Camaro is going to return.

I don't think that the mustang is going to be discontinued. If Ford gets rid of the mustang it would be a huge mistake and destroy a huge part of their income. I personally plan to own a mustang for the rest of my life and maybe some day down the road when I get a new one Ford better be rolling one out of the factory for me. Besides mustangs are the true and 4 ever american muscle car. Off course this all just my opinion.

mustangs outlast GM products again

I truly dont see how and or why Ford would drop the stang in another 5-10 years, it's lasted 40+ now, been through an oil crisis, the end of the cold war, and as others have eluded to, outlasted every other "muscle car" ever built with the exception of the corvette, but who the hell wants one of those anyways

yeah but a ranger, a focus, a tarus, or an explorer dont have the history, the mystique, or the envoke the all knowing nod at the stop lights, theyre fine cars/ trucks for what they are, but i think that the stang has too much charisma on it's side to leave.

I think the guys at work are chevy fans.

those guys are dumb ass's, it wont be gone in 5 yrs.
